Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had a super windy but fun ride yesterday. Now in NJ for nephew’s wedding. No riding. I was told I must wear a suit, something I do like once every 5 years. I dug out one from 1986 that I have not worn for over 25 years.

Bit of a tough gravel ride this morning. So much so that my Fitbit is telling me that I still need to eat another 2,300 calories to maintain a 750 calorie deficit on the day.

I love the descent, but I can't believe we have to watch out for people playing with the Hula Hoop.

A few photos from my 115 mile weekend. Killer head, tail and crosswinds on Saturday. At one point I nearly got blown over sideways while stopped at a long traffic light. Sunday had light rain for a bit. One of those stop to put on your rain jacket than the rain stops 10 min. later things. Can't believe I pulled off that mileage with only two real rides of 25 and 30 miles, respectively, under my belt.

On of several cedar lakes.

Arrived at my site.

Home away from home.

At boy's got to eat.

Finished product.

The place has services once/year.

Nice set of pictures, Indy. I like the bike set-up, the water pic is lovely, and the food looks great for something cooked in camp.

Those Coloradans must have access to the really good stuff at the dispensary if they're putting surfboards on signs in the mountains.

It’s a sign warning of people walking in circles, people just milling around, people vibrating, body board descending, hula hooping, or somebody vandalization. Or, it’s a surfboard in Colorado.

Surfboard was my first thought. Great minds think alike.

Thanks. The route and destination aren't that scenic, but it's some place to go for the weekend, and I picked up some nice New Jersey asparagus at a farm stand on the way back. The other place I wanted to go was booked solid.

As for cooking, I cook at home a lot and love to try to come up with tasty meals on the road. That particular one included foil-packaged chicken. I actually got turned on to foil-packed meat and fish by a post Machka made a few years ago in a thread about cooking on tour. I don't often shop in "regular"/large chain grocery stores much, so that sort of product never on my radar screen until she mentioned it. Makes total sense if you have to carry food a long way like I did.
