1979 Motobecane Team Champion

I keep seeing this bike every week so I might as well share! It's definitely cool and original but $1050? Also brilliant blue is the standard color for the 1979 Team Champion so I don't know what he's talking about with the orange. If it was one size bigger I'd maybe try to talk him down.

Extremely Rare Special edition This was a special edition of Motobecane's top bike model to commemerate the 1979 Tour de France bike and win.

Motobecane didn't win the 1979 TDF as Hinault was riding a Gitane when he won.

Dream Bike, but if he wants that price he ought to at least blow the dust off it. Looking under the dust, it does look barely used so there is a nice ride under all the crap.

Motobecane was ridden by team BIC and they won in 1973. In 1974 they made the special limited edition team champion, and then in subsequent years is was the top of the top of the line racing bike. So I think he mixed up his history a little.

I'm sure it is probably very pristine just hanging in his garage for 35 years. Still $1050? Grand Record and Le Champion move for $500. I guess this should go for a bit more.

I am with you. I was just saying that for top dollar the bike needs to be spic and span, shiny and new looking. If it cleans up really nice he might get the asking price, but it may even need to respoked. as is, $400-$500 in my opinion, and I am likely wrong.

It's one of those bikes that we're cursed to keep seeing on MN CL. Nice but unrestored ≠ $1000

He's dropped the listing price and he's willing to take a bit less than that though he says he has an offer in Cali. He didn't fix the other listing errors like stating it's Reynolds 531 when it's Columbus SL though you can see it in the pics. Anyway it's too small for me, I'd considered it for resale if I could get him down a little more to $600 but if anyone really wants it the price is now more reasonable.

I have a very high opinion of Motobecane in general, and I've seen some team bikes that I really liked...but that price is slightly optimistic for ebay in good condition; for CL, with those photos, I think it would take a few weeks to sell at half.

If you want top dollar ebay pricing...sell it on ebay, have top dollar photos and a top seller reputation. If you want to half ass your sale, you get half the money.

IF that bike were cleaned up, tires inflated, new bar tape and well photographed, I think the current price ($800) is possible. Right now, it's looks like it growing fur, the dust is so thick. If I were local and interested, I would go over with 5 - $100 bills and put them under the guys nose; if he took it great, if not meh.

It probably needs $200 +/- to get in top shape; new tires, cables, brake pads, chain (maybe) and a full tune-up. It would be a very pretty bike if cared for.
