Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Going up Encinal Canyon Road, on my way to a 50 miles, 3,600 feet of climbing day. Fun times.

BTW, the Painted Lady butterflies were back and swarming. It was good to have them as part of my own personal peloton. Magic!

I shoot this scene often. I took this today, in front of our house in New York's Hudson River Valley.

This picture was taken back in February 2019 when a friend and I rode 100 miles through the Miztpe Ramon crater in Israel to Eilat in the south.

View of Ramon Crater before we started our descent. About a minute later a spooked ibex (think goat on steroids with horns to match) darted from the shoulder in front of me (going 30mph at this point with brakes). Man, that thing had some acceleration! I missed it by about a foot!

From a recent cycle ride through Killarney National Park in Co. Kerry, Ireland.

And the amazing descent down through the Gap of Dunloe, .....admittedly not a completely empty road, but as good as.

I drove to Eilat from Jerusalem back in the 90's. Pretty much two lane the whole way back then and not much of anything out there once you got south of the Dead Sea. Thanks for the pics!
