I check my stats by age a lot. I'm usually first or second in every segment. Then again, I'm in the 75+ category and there are very few of us. So, not all that impressive.

I'm a little jazzed by this PR from Tuesday. I wasn't trying to set a PR, it just happened:
0.9 mph faster than my previous PR, set when I was a sprightly 54 year old.
4.4 W/kg for 2:25, which I suspect I can improve on with some more sprint climb training.
A mere 5th place in the 65-69 group (out of 255), but I did beat the PR of a retired pro woman that I used to race on these climbs, who has since moved away. Finally got you, Kim!
Top 10% of all age groups. I need to be 3 seconds faster to move up the old guy leaderboard. Come on, 4th place!

After 5 days of moving mulch around the homestead, was finally able to get back on the bike and it was a good day. Maybe the legs enjoyed the rest. Strava handle: RickyRocket. This segment is a 3.1 mile hill climb gain 645’.
The gentleman at the top of the leaderboard is a retired racer.
This came as a total shock - like Terry’s surprise PR. 1.3 mile rolling terrain.

Strava recently banned the creation of short segments, claiming that GPS data are too inaccurate to make short segments sensible. But they left all the existing short segments, with all their oddball leaderboard entries.
I think the new lower limit for segments is 500 meters (0.31 miles).

A month ago we were in Atlanta and I rode part of the Silver Comet trail, about 22.5 miles out and then back. Over that 45 miles there were 99 segments.
On a pretty flat multi use trail. It really has me wondering who is making these, and why?

This appears to bother you enough to read threads about a subject you clearly hate and respond with the same repeated bs.

A funny story. A number of years ago there was a Strava segment that I rode regularly on one of my typical routes. It was a slight (up) grade of several miles. My best time was something like 11:15 and that was only about 20 seconds behind the KOM time. One day I really went hard after it and felt like I had it (the start and end points were somewhat vague). When I got home and posted it I found myself in second place something like 5 minutes behind the KOM. Obviously someone had put their bike on their car and left their bike computer running and posted both their bike ride and their car ride.
It was kind of funny.

I just saw one of those yesterday. The guy's estimated power was over 1000 watts for several minutes. I smashed the "flag" button:
Flagging immediately excludes that ride from all leader boards.

From having the best VAM of anyone here years ago now I'm just trying to get in some miles. I signed up for the subscription Strava this year as part of my motivation and it usually just tracks my dog walks. I rode in the Boulder, CO area over the weekend on my CX/gravel bike on a combination of multiuse/gravel/paved areas. One part of my road riding was a big hill with a nice bike lane on a major road heading towards Golden. First day I got half way up and was pleased with my effort. Next ride I got to the top with a great amount of effort and watched another guy on a road bike fly past me as I was struggling along. I've signed up for a gravel event at the Ted Turner ranch in northern New Mexico in a couple of weeks and will post some pictures if I survive. The really good news is that my fitness has improved, I've lost some weight, and I may be able to keep up skiing with our Colorado grandchildren for a few more years. My fast road bike is sitting on my smart trainer for Zwift rides and probably stay there. Zwift is great for a quick workout but we live at about 7,500' and I'm almost always at a disadvantage to others riding closer to sea level, so no virtual races. I'm happy to see people I've seen posting here for years, like Terry, Hermes and others still riding strong.

Terex It is great to see you posting again. When I read your post, I scratched my head on how you came up with the best VAM. Duh, I started a thread that contained a poll for members to select their VAM range. Now as I remember, you were the top of the leader board.

But arbitrarily creating segments, many less than a quarter of a mile, on a really busy trail (where I think one needs to keep speed in check most of the time) seems overboard.
