Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2015 Bontrager Wheel 10 speed, convert to 11 speed?

I am selling my bike, it was upgraded to Ulegra 11 speed from Tiagra 10 speed. I also bought, a new wheel set that I want to keep.

I want to put the stock wheels back on but can’t get the 11 speed cassette on so I assume the wheel hub is only 10 speed. I want to do this a cheaply as possible so I’m not taking a huge hit when I sell the bike. What are my options?

See if there is a hub upgrade option, which may require some wheel modifications.

Huh - I would have thought that a 2015 bike would have had an 11-sp compatible hub. What do you mean when you say that you can't get it on? Can you get it on but the lockring won't grab? Is there an old spacer on the splines?

Not necessarily, especially on lower end Tiagra level models. If a 10 speed cassette fits without a spacer behind it then it's not 11sp compatible. My '15 Specialized Diverge A1's wheels weren't 11sp compatible.

I'm curious. Is it just a single 1-mm spacer, or more that's needed to convert 11-sp to 10-sp?

I ask because on my recent 10-sp build I had to put on one spacer, but the shifting is still temperamental.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack thread.

Yep, thanks that was it. There was a spacer.

There's that critical thinking thing again. Good call!
