January Goal: 200 miles

MTD: 142.2

Well that's a wrap for January.

Tried a new saddle tonight. Back in May I replaced a Brooks B17 with a Selle Respiro. I found it much more comfortable than the Brooks. Then a couple of weeks ago I noticed this crack on the side.

I rode it this way without worrying too much about it, but when I picked up the bike after my tuneup, the tech apologized for breaking my seat. He said they heard it crack on a test ride. He actually told me to go pick out a free replacement, but I explained that it was already broken and I wouldn't take it.

When I got home though, I started wondering what cracked, and I remembered hearing a crack myself a few weeks ago. I looked underneath and found this:

Luckily I bought the seat at REI, so I could return it for a full refund under their 1-year full satisfaction policy. Decided to try a Selle Explora. Designed for a 60-degree riding angle, instead of the 45-degree of my old seat. I doubt the angle is why it broke, but 60-degrees is closer to how I ride my hybrid. Seemed comfortable enough tonight, we'll see how it is after 100 miles or so.
