Interesting Gilmour find

I picked this up last night. Pictures as found. Seems like someone tried to make a nice racer into a comfort bike with the Nitto stem , Specialized bars, and turkey levers as well as turning the 3TTT seat post backwards. It is too small for me but I will try anyway. This bike feels so light. Galli brakes, crankset, RD and pedals. Dura Ace Black hubs laced to Super champion Tubular rims. Cyclone FD, Shimano 600 headset, 3ttt post and Concor saddle. I am not sure about the shifters. This bike is super light and has very nice detail. Wish it was my size. I have no idea what the frame is made of as there is no decal? Early 80`s ? Any info would be appreciated?

Andy Gilmour Cat 1's got Tange Prestige tubing, the rest of the guys and gals usually were Tange 1 or 2. Though some were Reynolds, Columbus mix. Tange sponsored my team with 10 sets of tubing a year. The club was pretty big 120 riders or so. Race weekends we would field 40-50 riders.

Andy Gilmour is a real nice guy. Offered a lot of info as well as a trade in towards a used refurbished frame in my size. Super nice looking frames repainted and chromed. So tempting but a bit out of my range. If anyone is looking for sweet looking vintage Gilmour`s he has a bunch hanging in the rafters.

I would encourage you to give this some more serious consideration. How often do you get an opportunity to step up to the real deal from the real deal? Very cool all the way around.

Very cool. I was wondering if he might be wanting to buy back as that is probably the CAT 1 bike based on your info there. Either way a Team one. It's pretty special as he did a replica per his post and link. Fantastic find man!

Yes i am thinking hard about it. I would need to sell off a good bike to pull it off.

I have met and talked to 4 frame builders in AZ, OR and WA and never met any builder more committed to the cycling community and more will to give a cyclist his time. He also does fair priced repairs on all bikes which I have not found common among builders. I have even seen Andy help out a guy with a bike food cart with a broken frame. This one just came off the rafters you referred to and is a sweet ride.

Gave her a quick bath and put a longer seat post on to see what I got. I may be able to make this work for me. Does the seat post height look ridiculous?

I passed up a Gilmore in my size for $100 at a bike swap last year because I didn't know what it was. At that price, I'm guessing the seller didn't either. Since then, I have seen several mentions here saying how good they are.

Simplex made with and w/o branding, and I've seen them in charcoal, black, blue and red.

Here's a couple from my stash, identical aside from the branding.

The shifters were probably made for Galli by Simplex as the Mavic SSC ones were. Those were packaged as Mavic and unstamped. Some of the prettiest shifters out there.

Crankset is a rebranded Stronglight 107......
Galli, like Gipiemme did not hesitate to source their components from French makers back then.....
Not a bad thing, cause they always chose the best stuff that the French had to offer.....

Swapped in a new 3tt bar with ITM stem, I know, not correct but they were free. Trying to see if I can make it fit. It seems ok with this set up. Now I need to obtain some good looking Galli levers and some new rubber. I may swap in a different set of clinchers wheels to get by for now. Will need a complete overhaul. Just trying to determine if I want to invest or let her go.
