There is no 'best' as there are a lot of good tires on the market. Snafu, Odyssey, and Primo come to mind as good brands, but there are dozens of good brands. Typically you just want to stay away from the least expensive tires as they do not have nearly the quality of the others. Kenda comes to mind as one to watch out for, but even they aren't 'horrible' just not as good as the others.

Check www.danscomp.com and pick some up. Plan on spending about $13-$15.00 per tire.

The Primo wall tires are really nice for all around riding. They have good hard pack dirt traction and great street traction. They are really sturdy tires. I ride one on my back and every one I ride with runs them front and back.

I'm on my second Demolition "Trail Slayer" tire on the front. The Trail Slayer is fantastic. It's knobby enough for dirt, but the knobs are close enough to be smooth on concrete. Don't buy a Maxxis MaxxDaddy for instance. The thing will rattle you to death on the street.

I run a S&M Mainline in the front and a Revenge in the back, both 1.95". Odyssey's tires are pretty good as well.

I ride S&M mainline on front and rear but there only good if you like high pressure tires. They grip like nothing else to the street and still hold there own on the dirt. However the wear down realitively quick but there still the only thing I'll ride.
