Dudes, I am sort of new at biking and i was wondering how to do high bunnyhops (J hops to some people).
I can do the kind where you just shoot your self straight up but i only get like 1 inch. Please help.

1) It's simply a bunnyhop. Not a bronco. Not a j-hop. Just a bunnyhop.
2) Pull up your front end and lift up with your feet. It's the hardest "trick" to explain, but it's also the easiest to do.

A true bunnyhop (and the only way to get any serious height) involves pushing the rear wheel into the floor before you lift your legs, sort of like when you pump through rollers at a skatepark / BMX track.

Yes, but I doubt that he's trying to do something of Troy McMurray caliber here. Most likely he's just trying to get over curb height.

I'm not suggesting that he trys to get such lofty heights, but if you learn bunnyhops "flat" then going up curbs and such like tends to lead to hanging-up the back wheel. If you learn the "front lift, push then jump" way the rear wheel leaves the ground later, so reducing the chance of clipping the curb - well, that's my experience anyway. Plus, it looks a damm sight better: you just flow up the curb....... sweet

When you "jump" you aren't simply jumping off the pedals: you have to push backwards with your feet - that's why your pedals have studs, they provide you with grip. Try rolling around, standing flat on the pedals, then push your feet backwards and lift a little at the same time - ignore the front for now. The back wheel should lift from the floor, with the front still on the ground. This teaches you the concept, then you need to learn to put it into the bunnyhop. Now, you sequence lifting the front then pushing back on the pedals whilst lifting your legs to jump. It's a damm sight easier to show someone than explain it

the best way to learn how to bunny hop is to keep trying.. and dont expect to be jumping on car hoods tomorrow. Just keep trying. Best way.

tuck in ur knees and to get the front up higher bring it up normal height then when u get it up ther some, shrug ur shoulders, then kinda jump with ur weight forward and push on ur pedals and the back should follow, work on gettin it high while landin on both tires too.

Read the how-to, watch the video, read the extra tips, then spend a few weeks practicing.

I like to think of it more as pulling the bike with you in the air instead of just pulling up the bike. It has a lot to do with weight transfer. Here is the way I describe it. First you pull up the front wheel as far as you can, then you tuck further and throw yourself into the air pulling the back end with you by transfering weight forward. You then try to even out the bike and prepare to land. Many think it has to be done really fast but you shoud take your time pulling up the front end and throwing yourself up into the air

Tricky to explain, easy to do, easiest thing I can think of, ; know how to jump.. when you lift at take of, similar to that, ..
* I kind of bunny hop off the jumps round here anyways.
I used to do an american bunnyhop ( back in the 80's) was wheelie and then mid wheelie, turn it into a bunny hop, they look cool, guess you could do manual to bunny hop - once I have learnt manuals will report back with my research. (Newbie as well..for now)

I honestly can't remember how long it took to learn, I was bunnyhopping as long as I can remember as I've been riding about that long, couldnt take long though, hell my cousin barely ever rides anymore (like once every few years) and still bunnyhops like 2 feet

you have got to be kidding.. KIDDING ME! I started riding when I knew NO ONE who rode.. I had no forum to help me out and I just tried to jump over and over again. People thought I was silly for trying to bunny-hop. It took me months to even get off the ground in a normal fashion.. and even more time to land a bunny hop on a ledge and actually move across it. Never give up man. Bunny hop is the first thing to learn.. once you nail it so many thigns will open up to you. dont quite early and always look back thinking you should have tried.. at least do it.. have a great time and stop if and when its not for you anymore, but dont just stop because you cant get a bunny hop in 2 weeks. I'de have been lucky if I got it that fast. Man, keep riding and have a great time.

Its really true giving up is the worst possible thing to do ... it took me along time of off and on riding to final get a decent bunnyhop down u just need to practice and what i found really helps is if you find a couple friends who wanna learn too so you can all get better together ... and it is really true once u learn bunnyhops it opens the door to so many different tricks and you learn them so much faster hell my friend learned 180's and barspins in the same week after he learned to bunnyhop well ... the point is dont give up and trust me youll never regret it ... good luck!
