Mike Melton Tourer all finished - Thanks AeroGut!

Thanks again to @AeroGut for holding onto this Melton touring bike for me and for the nice deal on it. I've slowly taken it apart and rebuilt it over the summer, bit by bit. Some of the component choices are a bit weird (tiny chainrings, 6 speed freewheel that didn't fit, etc.)

As found:

Looks fabulous!! The only thing I would do is lower the front derailleur, a lot. I would only have it that high if it hits the middle chainring, and I'd be looking for a suitable replacement if it does. Hell of a build though. Wow that is fine!!,,,,BD

I tried to lower the FD, but then it makes contact with the chain stay. Eventually I will replace the chainring with a larger one. After that, a wide range 5 speed freewheel.

I would like to replace the pedals, stem and bars some day too. I was at the point where I needed to stop spending money on it and those items can wait.

Turned out great.

I have a friend that has a Melton and she loves it.

Used to be her father's bike and she got her mitts on it recently.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yours!

Well that is a nice save! One of the more dramatic before and afters I've seen recently. Looking transformed.

6.585lb is fairly light for a 531db touring frame of that size. It's about a racing frame/fork weight. Normally I'd expect about 1/2 lb more. Depends which gauge they picked.

An stx derailleur will let you mount it lower. I use em because i use small rings.

Oh yeeeeah I have run into that before with small rings. I am doing my first build in nearly three years, and stuff is coming back into my mind slowly but surely. What am I building? A no name 26 inch mountain bike. Looks like original paint, but no graphics at all. Decent stuff though, 9sp. with XT RD, LX FD and LX cranks, and a Rock Shox Psylo fork.,,,,BD

The silver bits polished up nicely.

I have gotten to that point too, where I am tired of collecting parts and it's time to build it up and ride.
