I'm afraid in this winter photo, the silver came out as mink blue!

I just filed them away while thinning the lugs.

I just started overhauling my '73 RRA, so shot some pics of it. Weighed the frame as well. Frame with Nuovo Record headset cups in was 4 lbs 7.6 oz.; fork without race was 1 lb 12.7 oz.

A few more here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yv9wjkgoc...uAQme3fYa?dl=0

My '73 Carlton made Raleigh Gran Sport must have been built on a good day... the work is nice and clean and won't take a dime.

Can attest to seeing some less than stellar work on higher end Raleighs I have passed and time to look at.

My 531 framed '55 Lenton is very well put together as it should have been.

Thanks for sharing the photos of the RRA. Looking over my Raleigh bikes they seem to be pretty ok. My Gran Sport has a whole big blob of brass where the seat stays attach to the seat lug.

That '73 RRA is pretty much the best finishing I've seen from Raleigh on a set of Nervex lugs.

This is the thread I wanted to resurrect!

Wanted to revive this thread, I liked the observations on different runs of Internationals, and believe it or not, the serial number run was part of why I went and picked this up.

WD4004021

all the brazing looks fine except that seat cluster to top tube. Looks like they ran out of brazing, and you can see the gap under the point in picture three.

I also wanted to record the general condition, the fork got the worst of it, thin chrome. 😊

I’ll be keeping a build thread here: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...l-content.html

The funny thing is that - long after I forgot about this thread - I wound up with a copper International for a short time too - got rid of it as it didn't fit, and was built as a last-minute guest bike.

Like yours, the build quality was better than the ones I'd seen before it:

I never pulled the serial, but orcas island has the frame now and could tell us.

I watched that build! Didn’t make the connection! Looks like it came out better than it “should” have!

It is "unfolding" again in the form of a frame that fits me and slightly different parts:

P.S.: Just realized my domains are having SSL issues which are preventing photos from showing up. Will take care of this ASAP.

Out of curiosity, what's the serial number on it (for those compiling production run info)? I never even looked.

I’ll have to ask my brother; I built that bike for him and it’s currently in Portland

I just noticed the seatstay caps.... I might be wrong, but it looks like the brazing might be cracking. The matter has been discussed somewhere on BF before. Maybe Gugie or someone can comment on how significant this is??

Surprisingly common on these; most of the filler material is at top.

Since these only cap off the tubes and aren't actual plugs, this is nothing worse than cosmetic ugliness. Not a structural concern.

I'd venture to say at least 50% of the forum members' Carlton-built Super Course Mk.II's and Internationals probably have this same cracking...and the ones who don't have it have horribly misshapen caps full of brass globs and file marks.

I had noticed that when I picked it up, and decided it would likely be ok, since the seat stays to the cluster looked solid. But I did try to highlight them in the pictures, hoping someone with more experience... well, and they did.

Yep, not to worry.

Question - have the photos in the original post popped back up again? I just reinstalled the SSL certs for the domain that the photos are hosted on.

Incidentally, I've also picked up two Pro. Mk.IV's since I started this ancient thread. Any interest in lug closeups? One has been fully chromed, but the other is still in factory finish.
