Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My faster group tends to have crashes in July-August. I always assumed that was because speed and strength had exceeded handling skills by that time of year.

Before our ride this morning, I discovered that my front tire had taken fatal damage on last week's. As we had that pair of Gatorskins we found while moving, I went to use one to replace the front. Even just pulling it out of the package made it clear how nasty a tire it is. After struggling a minute to get it on, I grabbed a 25c GP4K and tossed that on. So much better, even just in hand.

Hrrrumph. As I was unloading the bike, I noticed that a small patch of cords was visible on the rear tire, so the end is nigh. This is with only a hair over 2k miles on it, too - not great for a not-cheap tire.

Yeah, saw that. I paid slightly more a week or two ago from them. I must not be too upset, though, because I ordered a 10-pack of tubes, yesterday.

Oof. Got in 20 miles after not riding for a while.

Winds were straight from the west at 20mph gusting to around 30. Basically all of my routes are East/West dominant since there's not a lot of room to go North/South. So the first section was a 5 mile long slog directly into that headwind, making 8-10 mph was a struggle.

At least it made the return cruising along at 20-25 mph a whole lot of fun

Oh hey, does anyone have a solution for something like this? I'd like a system where there was a switch or button I could strap to AG's bike that would send a radio control to a couple of lights on mine. The idea would be to use them so that when I'm doing windbreaking duties, she can use it to request more or less speed, because I have no good sense of how much she has in her legs and have no chance of hearing her voice. It seems like a simple thing, but a quick Google is mostly finding smart home type stuff.

At my house white bar tape gets dirty in its original packaging. And white shirts get dirty hanging in the closet

I have to agree
