Hey @TMonk and @Hermes, can either of y’all tell me what the road surface is like at Fiesta right now? Last time was so muddy and I’m trying to decide between Fiesta and Piru on Sunday. I’d rather race Fiesta because the flat course works better for what I want to achieve from a training perspective. But with the 2.5 hour drive and the time change on Sat, I don’t want to head down there to race in mud when I could race non mud 25 min from home at Piru.

I’ve been on the trainer a bunch, lots of rain here, seemingly on every day I’m planning to ride. So yada yada yada- various interval workouts.
Sunday I was on the fence on racing a TT (rain), decided to go (weather cleared), then it was cancelled (rain started again). So I had a plan B workout on the schedule- 1 x 9 @108%, 2 x 9 at 105%. Couldn’t really get there mentally, but I got the 108% interval done at high cadence (98 rpm).
Repeated that workout yesterday with a new nutritional approach (a bit of a fail). Got the 108% interval done, again at high cadence, and this time got the first of the 105% intervals done. Progress I guess.
This morning I managed to actually get out on the (wet) roads. No precip during my ride, probably for the first time in 2 weeks.
Trying to decide which TT to race on Sunday.

@Heathpack I'll be there tomorrow morning and can let you know. I don't anticipate it to rain enough to create a muddy road between Friday and Sunday mornings, so you should be good as long as it's OK tomorrow.

Track workout this PM two 30 lap points races and a 10 lap tempo race. We got to choose whether to race the A or B. The motor was on the track to set the pace. Bahati and his merry men were in the As. I went B. Great workout and a lot of fun.

Screw that fluid trainer. Screw it.
It's almost like an animal that isn't of the Lord or something. The crappy cooling indoors and the nature of having something dragging you to a constant stop with no momentum.
I always forget to drop the power a few watts and overcooked my VO2 work last night on it. I got in ~12min in the power zone I was targeting.
Yeah, usually outdoors or on a trainer with some kind of better fan and road feel I can manage more like 20min.
I know I was getting after it. I hacked up some phlegm and thought I might puke in the shower afterwards.
I did manage to find the "time in zone" field for the Wahoo. It does exist, and it's a horribly motivating and saddening field depending on how the workout is going.

Bro you want a direct drive smart trainer. It has completely changed riding indoors for me, I don't mind it at all, and the difference between what I can do outside vs what I can do inside is soooooooo much lower. 100% worth the money!

Elite Direto. I think there are a lot of great smart trainers though, you probably probably can't go wrong buying an Elite, Tacx or Wahoo. I bought the Direto in particular because my LBS carries them and they let me test one out for a few days before I bought it. I guess the Direto is supposed to be supremely accurate with power readings, but I use the numbers from my Quarq when recording data.

I got demoted in Zwift to C!
Got dropped almost instantly in my last race because I just couldn't hang with the 'Zwift Start'. That tends to happen alot as I have no jump and am rarely fresh for these rides (I did anaerobic intervals a few hours earlier).
Zwift, Hammerfests, Races, every single one I just can't keep up with the surges. Almost always its get dropped in the surge, carry the second group, etc. My main focus is getting a jump, its not going to be good, I just want good enough. 20,000 miles of running probably killed any fast twitch I once had.
Are you saying you can generate more power indoors?

No, I put out less inside, but a direct drive has decreased the difference in what I can do outside and inside by a lot. With a wheel-on fluid it was difficult for me to do over 300w, with direct drive I can do FTP work and vo2 work pretty normally.

Actually if that 8-10% is accurate my outdoor FTP is stronger than its ever been (we'll see)
I had similar issues with the Fluid Trainer; I did the Zwift beta on one and hated it. Having Direct Drive is sooo much better.

I am 8-10% as well between indoor and outdoor. Last week, I decided to warm up on the trainer and then start climbing outside, It was like I switched to a different pair of legs when I went outside. Smart trainers sound interesting. I suffer from FONHO. Fear of not having one.

I rode today. 6x6 w 2'rbi at what might have been threshold. Only ~250w lol. That's what happens after no training for 5+ months. Felt good though.
But it took 1.5 hours to get out the door. Lube and clean the chain, adjust derailleur, swap wheels, find clothes, etc. Would've been halfway through a gym workout before I even left home on the bike. The riding is nice. The prep and clean up is a f***ing chore.
Also did taxes. That's a worse chore. We owe only $877 this year. Not so bad.

Did 2hrs with 3x20 @ 99% Thursday, 3hrs with 5x15 @ 99% Friday, 3hrs 3x20 @99% and z2 between yesterday, and was aiming for 4hrs with 4x20 @ 99% today with z2/3 between and shat the bed 10min into my first ftp interval. Definitely found my recovery limit, but I think I could've made it another rep or two deeper if I had eaten enough yesterday! I get to rest up for a few days and switch over to some less intense higher volume afterward.

3hr gravel ride yesterday. Pretty much nonstop except a stoplight to get there and back. Lots of pr’s and about an hour above 260w (SS) cumulative for the ride. Passing a lot of folks. Getting more corner confidence.
This week I’ll need to decide with good weather whether to do the hammer ride, my special A+ hilly ride, or try for 25mi TT pr.

Trying to decide if/when to do my workout today. I don't carry the CTL lots of folks do, so the last two days of TSS threw the ATL pretty negative.
I want more VO2 work, but know I need some decent freshness for that. It's a silly idea, but perhaps just waiting until evening versus lunch hour might be enough.
Also, FWIW, I'm a cheap ass and use Excel to track those metrics. I just type in my TSS when I care to see the trends.
