Any thoughts on the SPECIALIZED SIRRUS EXPERT CARBON DISC 2015 model? Are there reasons to buy a model up/down in the Sirrus range apart from $?

Looking for a good fast hybrid as I can't seem to get used to a road bike on the test rides. Any advice is appreciated.

I have one. I use it for commuting and short trips. I think that it is a great bike.

I bought one but am yet to ride/experience it. Have ridden the other CF models (but not the Pro). In the process of upgrading virtually everything. Will report back when I have some miles in.

You might want to look at the 2016 sirrus expert carbon disk X1. I just ordered it and should have it next week. The price dropped $100.

Main differences between '15 and '16 are the switch from Magura to Shimano hydraulic brakes on the '16 and also the inclusion of the CG-R compliant CF seatpost, which is a better and pricier seatpost than the straight FACT on the '15.

The Expert also comes in two flavors now: a 1x11 array and a 2x11 Shimano 105 group.

Where can I find info about the X1? I'm in the northeast US and I can't seem to find that information anywhere.

Do you mean the '16 Sirrus Expert X1? You won't find any U.S. info yet; below are the specs from the German dealer book. Should be identical to North America; headings are missing but should be self-explanatory. Geometry is identical to '15.

The X1 is the grey/monochromatic model in the pics floating around. The 2x11 model looks very similar to the 2015 Comp Carbon: grey with Hyperline (the neon yellowish color).

I had a 2014 expert carbon disc. I bought it at a nice discount ($1700) and I think it was still over priced. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice bike but for the money the components are lackluster, the wheels suck, and it's way too heavy. I ended up upgrading every component on the bike. IMO the bike should sell for around $1500. In fact, I think all the carbon bikes in the Sirrus range are way over priced.

For what it's worth, I recently sold mine and before I did I put back to mostly stock with the exception of the XT shifters, rear dérailleur, cassette, and chain. I took it for a ride after reinstalling the stock parts to make sure everything was working properly and I was horrified how bad the bike is for the price.

Although harsh, there is some truth to this. I do not agree the price is unreasonable, given the prices of things today. What is agree with is that the stock wheels are not very good. The other parts are very functional, just not "nice." By the way, my XT parts are in a box waiting to be installed.

Overpricing isn't exclusive to Specialized when it comes to CF hybrids. The 2015 Cannondale Quick Carbon was astoundingly overpriced --on par with the Expert with Tiagra-level componentry-- and the 2016 has come down in price significantly AND the componentry has been upgraded to 105 level. The Trek 7.7 too: $2K for Tiagra. Hopefully manufacturers are getting the point and prices will stabilize.
