The tires tell me to pump it from 30-80 psi but I am not sure ideal pressure. What parameters should I consider and what pressure work best? Both front and rear tires same pressure? I have a 26x2 rear and 26x2.2 front.

Traction will be enhanced when the tire can conform to the pavement. Lower pressures will help. Try 30. Try 40. Try 25. Experiment a bit. See what works for you. The answer depends a lot on local conditions. I often run at pressures lower than the ranges printed on my tires.

Yeah, experiment. As we all do ;-)

Going with a tip on these forums, I now lower the pressure on my front tire slightly more than my rear tire. Rear tire carries more weight (more puncture sensitive) so don’t go too low there. Lower pressure = more traction, contact surface but sometimes more puncture sensitive.

E.g. (F) 50 psi & (R) 60 psi when the weather is sweeeeeeet, and when raining I lower pressure maybe down to (F) 40 psi & (R) 50 psi.
[ 50-622 28x2.00 35–65psi ]

I think when icy you can go very low, just remember you may work-out a little more as lower pressure means less velocity too.
