Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? With the race wheels its about 15lbs.

Trek Madone
XXXLite handle bars, stem, bottle cages
SRAM Red / Force
Wheels shown (SSR's, heaviest wheel Bontrager makes pretty much.)
Specialized Romin Expert

Unless you are keeping this thread to SS / FG only. Then the photos and my post can be removed.

So, is it safe to assume that my hi ten Schwinn Cutter is not appropriate fodder for this thread?

I don't get it, Chris' Madone is only 1 lb more but he has a full groupset. imagine how light he can get if he converted to FG

fixed is a portly 17.5lb sputnik. lightest is red-equipped time...a bit under 16lbs w/65mm clinchers, right at 15.0 w/climbing wheels.

I have friends with one off Trek Districts, FULL xXx lite parts. Wheelset, cut bars, custom cut brakes, all sorts of stuff. Believe me when I say they weigh just over 11lbs. Madone framesets are LIGHT. The district is a Madone that is a single speed belt drive. When you then swap out everything on the bike with xXxlite carbon fibre parts, plus some custom cut stuff, things get LIGHT. It was mind blowing....

I have my TET right around 17.25 lbs. Not bad for steel (lighter than my FTP), but I could definitely get a bit lighter if I had lower profile Kinlins and some weight weenie bars.

Because they're freaking small. The head tubes on all my bikes must contribute 2+ pounds

. . . I can understand a light bike, and why someone might want to make it light... But how is what I was confused about in the first place.

But I have a good amount of lightweight stuff, yet my bikes never reach THAT low... 13 and a half just seems unbelievable
