jiangshi Honestly, this is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard stated as a fact. You are telling me that a bike with a 50cm stem rides the same a a bike with a 140mm stem? That is correct the stem extention does not matter. You can easly prove this to yourself. Take a Bike you can ride no hands to a parking lot, ride it around both left and right , change the stem for a shorter one repete, change to a longer one repete. You will find that it makes no difference in the handling of the bike.

sloar You should have no problem making a 54 cm bike fit. Start by picking one of your bikes that you feel fit you well and is comfertable to ride. If the seatpost is the same diameter it will make it easier. Start by measuring from the top of the pedal spindle to seat rail along the seat tube ( if you can borrow the saddle) other wise the top of the saddle. Second: use a level or a plumbob off the nose of the saddle measure at the crank spindel how far forward or behind the center of the crank axle the nose of the saddle goes.. Three: measure from the bottom of the nose of the saddle to the top tube. Four: use the level on the handelbars mesure to the top tube. subtract the handelbar to top tune mesurement from the nose of seat to top tube mesurement ,this is the drop you like. Five mesure from the nose of the saddle to the center of handelbars.
To set up new bike start with the pedal to saddle measurment. If you can borrow the saddle and post, the set back and tilt of the saddle will be real close, if not then you will have to set the nose of the saddle in the right spot. Mesure from the nose of the saddle to the top tube, use level to mesure bars to top tube adjest to correct drop. mesure from saddle nose to center of bars, if the stem to long or short change it also check minimun insertion, use a longer stem with the right extension if necessary. fine tune for an exact fit
