Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I want to get a new crankset for the checkpoint. Currently I have 42T would like to switch to 48T. Looked at chainrings but would be cheaper to just buy a new crankset but this doesn’t solve my power meter problem.

Rode the checkpoint this morning with the spd pedals and mountain bike shoes. The shoes are super comfortable, still having trouble clipping in my right foot. Really have to mess with it, luckily I only had to unclip once. I felt blind without the power data, but HR was working well. Should have gone easier but I won’t be riding the next three days so figured what the hell.

Of course if you don't drive it for a month it may go down.
Part of the issue is the reduction of weight in batteries. Also, quality control can be worse than years ago. And luck is involved.

Our cars each have 5ish year old batteries and Mrs rarely starts her car. I had a cheap Wal Mart battery for 8 years in a truck I sold.
my car has an issue that results in high parasitic drain - bad door handle … (and possibly another issue) known problems with the car unfortunately

so the car cannot sit too long or battery will not start the car when temps are low (single digits etc)

dealer showed the handle was out of stock - and it was ridiculously expensive anyways - so I live with it

I have a compact jump starter just in case

I’ve had better luck with batteries made by East Penn and Johnson Controls / Clarios - so we have Duracell batteries in two cars and two tractors … Duralast in another car … typically get the highest CCA and capacity I can get in the spec’d battery

installed an AGM battery in one car (despite contradictions on compatibility due to alternator output / charge rate ?) … and more recently went with an EFB battery in another car

The Saturn’s stock battery lasted around 12 years. The second one only lasted about 10. It’s got a few years on its third.

YMMV

The last 30 years I did primarily diagnosis of driveability issues. Intermittent crap that didn't make sense. Stuff that was not repeatable. False codes, software and programming problems. Mostly warranty (therefore warranty pay). I got pretty good at guessing and my instinct was good. Sometimes I would lie awake at night wondering what was wrong with a car. Thousands upon thousands of cars. At least 10 cars per day, sometimes over 20.

If I had to do it again and stay in a dealer I would do the same specialty. Much less physically demanding than an engine tech (hate doing that) or a brake and front end guy. I think the most money now is a transmission tech but the pressure is extremely high as is the ass busting. Trans techs are very hard to find and dealers try to steal them from other dealers. The trans man at my old job makes more than I ever dreamed possible but he is constantly overwhelmed with work and has 2 full time helpers. He's not 40 yet and I wonder how long he can stay with it at his current pace.

I got bedeviled by the clip on valve head and the T handle and foot. Might as well be easy if it becomes necessary.

Just got back from the first 15 mile "shakedown" ride. When I got the bike out of the Dodge, it occurred to me to wonder whether I'd torqued the stem bolt all the way down....Nope! Good thing I checked!

Seatpost is too short! Even at "Min Insertion" I felt like I was on a BMX bike!

After a couple miles I decided the saddle was too far forward, so I moved it back maybe 1/2 cm. Much better. It felt cramped before.

Headset loosened up, I don't know why - bearings seating?

Shifting and brakes work great. This is 7-speed SIS - *click* and you're in another gear. Must have been quite a revelation for riders BITD!

My hands were not uncomfortable on the old-school bars, but I can't seem to get comfortable out of the saddle on 40 cm bars. Makes the bike feel like a toy Ultimately, I'll swap the 40 cm bar and 100 mm stem for the 44cm Highway One and a 110 or 120 stem. I like the looks of the Nitto Dynamic on the Litespeed, but a Cinelli 1A would be more authentic.

So, here's Version 1.0, out IRL I couldn't find a place without tall grass, so you can't see it, but the valves really are aligned.

Racing? That's a spectator sport at my age.

There is racing going on. I see lots of racing photos on local cycling group FB pages. You're just not finding it. I'll see what I can find for you.
