Rode 8/31 10.77

Today 9/1 11.89

I thought I would be feeling the "why are you doing this" pain after not being on a bike in about 3 years but no. I really thought Wednesday I would go to get out of bed and my legs would say, I don't think so! The only issue I had was getting up after sitting at break and the knee were REAL STIFF but I was able to walk that off. I started riding again Tuesday 8/29 as I said after a LONG TIME off the bike and doing very little other exercise besides walking at work and standing at work.

38 miles today. Was riding on the north loop this morning and was run out because the contractors working in the well field didn't want cyclist going up and down the path while their heavy equipment was using the path. Because of it, the south loop was very crowded so my ride today wasn't much faster than yesterday's ride with the wife.

26.8 miles (43.1k). The mornings are starting to cool off, but still in shorts and short sleeves with arm warmers.
10 minutes can really make a difference. If I leave at 8AM there is a lot of auto traffic. 8:10—not so much, 8:20 a lot more. I ride 3 miles thru commercial areas to get to the bike path.

The Virginia rains came early, So I was out by 7:00 before it started really coming down. Luckily, Berry Hollow was dry, so I did one final climb. Geesh, on this one it's really tough to keep the front wheel down in sections! Sometime I'll have to access someone's elevation profile. Finished up with 20 good, hard mountain miles. Tomorrow is a travel day - headed back to FL. But I'll be here again for the Rough Ride in two weeks.

Did 16 miles today on my (somewhat extended) lunch hour.

Cool here today, 59 degrees at noon, and a headwind most of the way.
Had to bust out the long sleeve shirt, to go under my Hi Vis jersey.

Starting to see acorns on the roads here now, making the riding interesting......

3.4 miles this evening, 3.1 this morning. Just a little over 103 last month. That's more exercise than I've done in years!

Now, question for the ones who are getting 20 and 30 miles a day in- when do you have time? What kind of pace?

8 miles Friday night, stretching my legs, errands, trying to get turn by turn voice navigation working offline. No luck. Beautiful clear, cool evening, though.

And I realized my fitness has improved so much since this time two years ago I'm just loafing along at a speed that used to exhaust me. Not gasping for breath, no pouring sweat, just relaxing and enjoying the ride.

That's what all the hard work on other rides is for.

Got to the park this morning and thought I was somewhere other than Florida. My Bolt showed a temp reading of 69º and man did it feel good for a change. We had a very hard rain last night and again very early this morning so the already flooded park had even higher levels of water. The pavement was wet, full of debris from the thunderstorm and very slippery. Since I don't weigh much, going around some of the turns at greater than 19 mph was causing some rear end swaying so I kept it between 17-19 mph for a good 40 mile workout. Forecast calls for more thunderstorms later this evening.

I took the Wabi Special out for a spin around town for a little over an hour on this gorgeous late Summer morning. It was a little windy still, ever since Tropical Depression Harvey blew through last Thursday. The single speed going uphill against the wind was a killer on the legs, but I still averaged out pretty well.

36.3 miles (58.4k). Rode out to Mayberry park with a friend. Part of the ride back is on 2nd St./Glendale Blvd, under construction (badly needed) and most of the pavement has been laid. It's like having my own, personal well paved bike lane inside the cones.

My town went of a re-paving spree a couple years ago. I searched out those roads to ride, and it was great going around town and through some neighborhoods, until they re-installed all those dang speed bumps. Why do they have to run them almost all the way to the curb? It really ruins an otherwise really smooth ride.

20 mi + a bit. Beautiful day so I decided to attack Bachelor Loop again and see if I could get a little higher up before I had to stop. WOW 1.5 miles - almost a mile more than first attempt. Now motivated to try again SOON.

47 tandem miles today at the Midwest Tandem Rally in Dublin Ohio. Afraid the day would get rained out but instead it was a great day for a bike ride except for the almost-constant mist/light rain and cool temps. Supposed to be truly nice weather Sunday.

More rain last night and early this morning and more water at the park. Other than where the gully and the creek cross the trail, there hasn't been any standing water on the trail. If it keeps raining like it has, that may not be the case. Got in a nice 40 mile ride with my buddy Frank C.

Just a nice, simple, 25 mile ride out west of the Richmond, VA area, out to West Creek Pkwy business development (Capital One, VA Farm Bureau, etc...), turned around and rode back home the same way, along River Rd.

Here's a shot from River Rd by St. Catherine's School

Here's a shot from the twin ponds in West Creek Pkwy business complex, looking at the huge VA Farm Bureau building in the background.

I decided to get out early this morning to beat the incoming heat. So I managed almost a 90 minute ride around town on a really lovely day, and with practically no wind either. And there was very little traffic this morning. The uneventful rides are the most pleasant.

41 miles Sunday morning along a shorter version of the route I rode last weekend for a metric century. Improved my speed, averaged 16 mph overall. Neck was aching the last 10 miles so I need to cut my rides a bit shorter on the road bike until the neck and back conditioning improve. Around 20-30 miles seems about right for the road bike with drop bars. I'll stick with the hybrid for longer rides, especially on rougher pavement.

Another last moment decision to spend money for a 100+ mile ride. 2017 Tour of Sebring 104+ miler went off today Tour Of Sebring... Bicycle Event

some Sun-some Rain, some Hills-some Pain is my summary of today's ride. Started off thinking that it should be a 1 or 2 stop ride since I've never ridden this ride before but have been over some of the route for Bike Sebring 12/24 Hours. Plan was to pass SAG-1 and SAG-2 with a short stop at SAG-3. Sure didn't work out that way though. Wound up passing S-1 and S-2 and S-3 PLUS S-4 and S-5. Managed a 4:51:21 time for 104.4 miles.

No I didn't ride today, or yesterday, Plus it's 101° out there. Half the state is on fire, it's been bad for over a month, this is the worst rating they've posted yet. Can hardly see accross the street. Last time I went out, 4 days ago, I wore a thick fine particle welding mask for a 4 hour ride. Smoke wasn't this bad. I'm going tomorrow even if it kills me, [IMG][/IMG]

64 tandem miles today at the Midwest Tandem Rally. Not so hilly hereabouts - didn't use the small ring on the bike yesterday or today.

My folks lived in Bend for about 22 years. It got too big & too expensive for them, so they moved to the coast. I'd like to take my wife out to see at least the High Desert Museum, Pine Tavern...
