I inherited a free bike decades ago and put it to use as a commuter.
It got me to work and home in Seattle, but never in fun mode.
I think I ended up donating the bike to whatever, I don't recall.
A few years later I saw, "Shawn of the Dead",
The record throwing scene inspired me to launch my BioPace into the wetlands behind my lot.
It was a wonderful toss!

I did have a partial knee replacement some years later.
I'm thinking about suing Shimano!
But enjoy.

We are having beautiful weather in the Dallas area so I took advantage today and did what I call my Tour de Dallas 40 mile ride.

I ride from far north Dallas down to Southern Methodist University, then to the downtown Dallas area, through the Deep Ellum section of the eastern downtown area, to the Santa Fe trail, to White Rock Lake , then back north up the Southern Pacific trail, on to North Dallas starting point.

It was just a great day to be out pedaling a bike!

Two miles from home I saw this 26" wheel out by curb for trash pick up. I can probably make use of it. It has a decent Vittoria tire on it. Guy was in his garage and I asked if it was up for grabs and he said take it...no longer needed it. Cool!

Today's ride was all about testing two of the latest pickups. The Raleigh Racing USA Prestige and the Miele Latina. Both performed fine although the stock brakes on the Raleigh are not all that good. The front is ok but the rear was more just a mild speed modulator. The narrow bars on the Raleigh also were not that great for me. But, all an all a beautiful bike that moved quite well and the Suntour Superbe items were great as usual.










After around 10 miles on the Raleigh I went home and swapped over to the Miele. Instantly this one felt better under me, some of that for sure was just fit. Here again components worked fine and the old tubulars I temporarily put on it did not present any issues. They did give a plushier ride. I really liked this initial ride on this one but it still needs a fair amount of work. That bar tape was terrible under my gloves, so slippery. Despite the chill, I just took off my gloves and went bare-handed. Sorely tempted now to rebuild this with the new 6800 groupset I have but will give it more thought before I decide.





Put in another 11 miles on the Miele at a much faster pace.

I returned last week from Phoenix to my home in the Eifel(Germany). A real temperature shock, from seventies to low fifties.
As there is no bad weather only bad clothing( I like vintage bikes, but not vintage clothing&#128513, I went out for rides.
scenery in this rural area ( just north of Spangdahlem for all us airforce personnel that served here), is nicer than sprawling Phoenix.

Beautiful weather in SE Pennsylvania today so I rode the Schuylkill River Trail in Chester County through Phoenixville. Stopped to snap this photo that makes me recall the great photos that botty kayer sends us from Old Blighty. The Phoenix reaches back to the Phoenix Steel Works that was on this site where they are now building the Steel Pointe development (condos?). This mural was painted on the end of a 5 story building along the entrance road. The Phoenix recalls the steel works as well as the image of the city itself rising from the ashes after loosing its major source of employment (1790 to 1984). The cannon reminds me of the colonial iron industry that thrived in this area and was critical to supplying cannon and shot to the Colonial armies. This site is also not far from Valley Forge Park where Washington's crew camped. The cauldron of molten steel and the workers at the bottom invoke the activities of the Works during its operations. Nicely done.

Last Sunday I rode up one of our local canyons that has a moderate climb . I have been trying to get my strength back since my broken hip and my usual , mostly flat , ride to Ventura is not enough. I was the only one back there as I pedaled in but on my way out I saw quite a few heading up . It was cool and the stream was full flowing , Joe
