Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I ride on roads for leisure and pleasure, as well as doing a short commute which includes urban roads as well as river bank and canal towpath. I also ride bridlepaths, canal banks, footpaths and anywhere I can keep the bike moving. Sometimes that's slogging through muddy wheel ruts on a farm track, sometimes it's plodding along a grassy field boundary, or taking a short cut through the woods. The bike is a road bike, fixed gear currently 42t x 18t, 28mm road tyres, with pinned platform pedals. It's a "riding bike".

I have never ridden BMX and I don't do any stunts or tricks.

I also have a gravel bike with 20 gears, 28mm road tyres, and disc brakes, which comes out less often, but can cope with a wider range of off road conditions.

And a garage full of unicycles from 24 inch to 36 inch wheel, all of which are ridden on or off road. I have a limited repertoire of "tricks" on the 24" wheel, but all of my machines are mainly for going places on.

We zombied a thread from 2009 to say Both and that is it? Why? If you don't have a good contribution to the thread that will actually enhance it just leave it dormant like everyone else did. It was a silly thread to begin with with no actual content.
