People get way too worked up about this. I think it's just they can try to sound more knowledgeable than the guy w/ the can of WD40. It's fine. It's oil and solvent...which is what pretty much all chain lubes are. Some are better, for sure. It's a chain. For the OP's use it's totally fine, basically what it was formulated for. Some oil is generally considered better than none...or none + rust.

It's mostly a solvent with a small amount of oil in it, and mostly it will evaporate, not leaving enough lubricant behind. Even the company that produces it must be aware of its failings as a bike lubricant, or they wouldn't have produced a different formulation specifically for bikes.

But hey, if you want to rely on it as the sole lubricant on your chain, knock yourself out.

And then there's Google, it's a wonderful thing.

I learned 50 years ago how to research and that was before the interweb when you had to go to the library. That skill served me well during my 45 years in IT when everything was new to everyone.

It says it's a lubricant right on the CAN. You'll accept WD stands for water displacement but you won't accept lubricant stands for LUBRICANT?
These WD40 threads would be a lot shorter if only people who actually use WD40 as a chain lubricant were allowed to Post... wondering if WD40 isn't a lubricant is an Orthodoxy? Asking for a friend.

I don't see "LUBRICANT" on the label.

After a quick Google search, i found that WD40 has entire line of specialty products. Kind of like saying your bike is a Specialized and not mention the specific model.
