Non omnino gravis
If you like it, use it. Then something better will come along and you'll use that. There is no "best" chain lube. You'll get almost as many opinions as there are chain lubes to buy.

I have used chain saw bar lubricating oil. I don't see a downside to it at all, it's inexpensive and has other uses..like on a chainsaw

I'd say anything but WD-40. You might use WD-40 to degrease a chain, but not for lube.
I just cleaned a bunch of black grime off my chain, I think it's brake dust. I've got some kind of chain lube which goes on wet and dries. It's mainly for use in dry conditions. Sorry, I don't know the name of it at the moment, it's at home and I'm at work. But it says it's self-cleaning, since if it gets dirty it will flake off. I'll believe that when I see it. But I plan to keep cleaning and lubing my chain every 100 miles.

I use unsalted melted butter. Never use salted butter when you use butter for chain lube. It will cause rust. I have used Rust Check before, but it was so slippery it made my chain fall apart.

IMO the best and cheapest chain lube is a light oil. I use Mobil One and get terrific mileage out of my chain. All the "special" chain oils and other snake oils are a rip off. BTW again IMO wax and WD-40 is NOT a lubricant.

I've been thinking about buying a quart of Cosmoline, heating it up and soaking the chain in it. It's what comes on the chains from the factory in the first place.
Everyone seems to think that the stuff that comes on new chains is made from unicorn blood or that it has magical properties. I might give it a try.

After riding in the rain or slushy snow, Like to spray my chains with WD-40. Then wipe off the chain with a paper towel. However for regular lubrication, I use PJ 1 blue label chain lube. Works well, lasts a long time

What they don't say is *which* variant of Gleitmo. There are a number of variations.
It is made by: Solid Film Lubricants - FUCHS LUBRITECH GmbH
I have no idea how similar the chemistry might be to cosmoline.
