Bike arrived with micro dent. Am I being ridiculous?
Hello! My steel frame bike from state bike co arrived with a micro dent and I’m torn on if I should send it back for a new one of just bite the bullet and accept this minor imperfection. This bike was going to be my single speed cruiser/commuter/beater? Please tell me if I’m being a bit looney here or if sending it back is justified. Also sorry for the weird link format it won’t let me post a URL lol

Just being a little bit of devil's advocate...but if it's going to be your beater bike...why did you buy a new frame? I mean the fact that you did purchase a new frame says to me that 1) you intend it to be a little more (i.e. nicer) than a beater bike, and if so that 2) that you care enough to send it back.
Dan
P.S. Wish you could upload the pic of it so we could make better judgement.

Because I got it for 100 off during state’s holiday sale! Also I attached a “url” to the pics. Just copy and paste replace the DOT with a period

I'd consider sending it back, but I'm a perfectionist and it would bother me greatly having an easily noticeable dent on my bike. Just the fact that you felt the need to make this thread tells me you feel similar about this.
I'd ask about just getting the frame replaced, especially if the wheels and rest of the parts were fine. Lots of times wheels get bent or nicked up in shipping.
EDIT: I just looked at the pic. Damage looks pretty minor even to a nut like me. I'd polish it up and ride.

$100 off a $1000 bike would make it $900. That's an expensive beater. See where I am going with this?

Right, but I'm guessing some (much?) of that can be rubbed/polished out.

I would return assuming their return policy is adequate and it's not going to be a major hassle. Unless by beater you truly mean you plan on beating it where it's scars are a badge of honor. If that's the case you just got a head start.

There's usually a reason why something is reduced. If you were paying full price then you could command the expected quality, but as a reduced item the deal is kinda what it is.
They should've indicated any reason for the reduction, though.

That dent is almost unnoticable. I'd side with the others that said keep it and ride it. Which frame did you get? Perusing their site, I only see frames and forks for fixed/single speed or cyclocross/gravel. But they all look good to me.

This is the montecore 3. Its a fixed gear bike. I got the bike for 350 (from 450) from their annual holiday sale and i actually just contacted state about it and they gave me a 40 dollar gift card because of the micro dent. Eh I guess i’ll keep it lol

Same here, ride it. After a while, you won't even notice it. KB.

It isn't the dent per sé but what else might be wrong that you can't see.
You paid for a new blemish free bike even if it was on special.
Maybe the reason it was on special was the problem.
In that case they should have mentioned it.
Edited to add,
Well I see that you came to an equitable solution.
Good on you for the credit.

Keep it.
That tiny dent saved you $100. I'd love that tiny dent for that reason.
Also, I doubt you'd notice that dent anymore after the first 5 minutes of riding it.

I didn't catch which tube was dented. That may make part of the decision.
Also, check the terms on your "sale bike". It wasn't a year-end scratch and dent special was it?
I'd contact the vendor. They might choose to kick in, say an extra $50 to not have to deal with the return.

How did you even come to notice that tiny little dent? I would gladly accept a $40 gift card and then use it as my "beater" bike.

Over time you get more wear and tear just from laying it against bike racks. It wouldn't bother me.

Have yous guys looked at all of the pics? A dent and scratch on a bike that is brand new and not being sold as "scratch and dent" would be a problem to me- and I'm not a fussbudget.
My used Klein arrived with a dent a little bigger than that and a hole in the box, and I ended up getting half of what I paid for the bike from UPS.
It wouldn't bother me so much if I put it there, from regular use....but knowing it came like that from day one, when you paid for something brand new....it'd be a thorn in the flesh continually.
And to hell with the seller's return policy! They sent you damaged merchandise; you are entitled to compensation or exchange for another one at no cost to you.
It's not like it's a $99 Walmart BSO. $900 is a fair bit of change, and you shouldn't have to accept damaged goods for that kind of money.Looks like a nice bike. If you wanted damage though, you could have bought used and have gotten it even cheaper. So I say, follow up and get them to make good on it. It'll never seem like it was new, having damage right out of the box.

I've never had a shipped bike show up perfect. Find a cool sticker to put on it.
