Summer Bike Camp

Hey guys! Summer is fast approaching, what are your plans? I'm trying to organize a youth summer bike camp so anyone is invited to showcase their bicycling skills. However, I am worried that it will be cancelled due to the pandemic that is going on. Do you think the vaccines can pull it through this summer? Please share me your thoughts.

Children and younger teens won't be vaccinated; with careful attention staff might be, and you probably should require that not just for the fact but for the alignment with an attitude of considering risks real.

That said, I know of a number of outdoor day camp type programs that ran last summer. Done right it may be possible, a lot comes down to attention to detail.

Some specific challenges to think about:
  • Bathrooms
  • Meals, snacks, water bottles - though I do think a good bottle filling station is possible, and I wish they were all over the place so we didn't have to go into stores to buy water.
  • Difficulty of doing masks right when all hot and sweaty
  • Care in maintaining some distance during and between activities
  • Likelihood of carpooling between families who live nearby

Instead of theorizing with forum randos, perhaps you should contact your state/local health department or the agency in charge of restrictions and see what they forecast/recommend.

I think most people are taking a wait and see approach to making plans. I wouldn't organize anything that is going to involve a significant investment in time or money cause no one knows for sure what the situation will be this summer.

in addition to Rolla's excellent suggestion, perhaps check with other local organizations in your state, what ever it is. Maybe other camps, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, schools, 4-H, et al.

anyone can get vaccinated in my state starting April 5th. hopefully its similar in other states since more vaccinations = fewer scared to interact in public social situations.
i am sure there will be successful situations and there will be failed situations moving forward.

our local ymca and police both do summer bike camps that are structured. similar to what you are suggesting, but different since they arent about spotlighting skills and instead focus on safety, gearing, etc.

People under 16 can not get vaccinated yet, so I would expect existing protocols will still be in effect.

Remember that time we had at bicycle camp? You taught me so many things I never even knew about myself. I'll never forget when we rode fast away from the others that last night, back to the cabin by ourselves in the dark. I became a man that night. You taught me so many things...

Summer begins in fewer than 3 months and you are just considering this? What steps have you taken to get your business off the ground?

You'd think but from what I've been hearing summer camp programs were often full within the first hour of registration opening... weeks ago.

Parents who've had kids mostly at home for a year are getting a little desperate, and of ways they might relieve that and the kids isolation, outdoor things can end up looking like the least bad of a range of ideas that start there and only get worse.

Saw a local news report just last night about how camps have booked for the season for some time.

I found this article and got a few insights for the preparation - <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->https://elgruponorte.org/2020/06/04/...9-precautions/

Just thinking if it suits the plan, if not then probably we will just have to re-plan and do a less restricted activity. Just thoughts.
