9 Speed Dura-Ace DT shifter question
Right side 9 speed index I could install no problem. The left side shifter has a mechanical stop in the portion that butts against the frame.
In the forward most position, should it run parallel to DT, or stop in this slightly raised position? This is where it stops on the internal stop. If this is the correct method/position then it seems odd to me, but stranger things are correct.
There is also a helical internal spring that can be "wound" up for constant tension it seems?
Can somebody walk me through this shifter install? Thanks!

The forward motion does stop before the lever can rest parallel to the downtube. The fixing bolt gets tightened just enough to keep the internal spring from pulling the lever back.

I did install it correctly. Just seemed a little crazy!

Yeah, took me awhile to get accustomed to that oddity with DA downtube shifters after using Suntour and others that came to a stop in a more cosmetically appealing position.
Ditto, the paint on that bike. More pix, please. That subtle fade into a diamond, checked or snakeskin pattern looks great.
Nice motorcycles too. That one in the back against the bench looks like a friend's customized Yamaha SR500.

In yet another unforgivable slight to left-handers, the higher resting position for the left/front lever makes it easier for the right thumb to engage and move the lever. From the right side of the frame, natch. You don't have to rotate your right wrist nearly as much to engage the lever.

I ran a flat bar shifter 10 speed with a DT front shifter and it frustrated me try to get it to be flat while in the small ring.
I finally found that info sheet above and realized it was made that way.
It was a fun bike to ride as I rode it like I had a high/low range.
This last one shows it laid forward almost parallel to the DT.

I've never tried the DA shifters but if they work anything like my 6400 7s left shifters with the spring assist system, they are amazing.
Does anyone know if the current R400 8s front derailleur shifters have a similar design?

The R400 shifters have spring assist on both front and rear shifters, however, they can't be switched to friction and the front shifter sits parallel with the down tube when in the small ring.

Same experience with the 8V DT DA on the Pinarello. Converted to Ergos.
