I recently bought a 2008 Haro F2 BMX bike that needs some TLC. I plan to fix it up & upgrade it as needed.

But I have a few questions regarding some of the components:

1) Are the brake mount posts removable? If so, how? It looks like there may be a set screw, but I wasn't able to engage using various size hex wrenches. What are these styles of brake mount posts called?

2) The chain has a quick release type that I have never seen before. What are these called? How do you release them? Special tools required? Are they reusable?

3) The bottom bracket is the adjustable cup & cone style. Can these be replaced with newer cartridge or sealed-type bottom brackets? I am having trouble removing the sprocket from the axle. Any tips, suggestions or how to videos you can recommend for this?

Those particular ones are removable only by cutting them off.

It's just an old school master link with a keeper, I pop the keepers off with a fingernail. Install the same way.

yes. look for a 19mm 8 spline sealed american bb

Easiest way is to clamp the fixed cone in a vice and gently turn the crank

you're also going to need a 19mm to 15/16th's adapter for that steel chainring

Oh. Great to know. l don't think I'll replace the BB for now, because everything looks okay. But really glad to know I have that option going forward.

I'm actually replacing the chainring with a 25T Theory Verify which I believe came with that adapter. I'll hold onto it for when I actually replace the BB. For now I'll just clean, regrease and reassemble the existing BB. No damage, so I'll live with it for now.

your bottom bracket axle requires a 23.8 or 15/16ths axle hole on whatever sprocket you decide to use.
nuttin else will fit.
