Making the switch
I'm thinking about making the switch to an electric powered bike, but I'm worried about the added weight. I think it might ruin the fun of unassisted riding because of the added difficulty. Anyone have this problem? Or am I overthinking it?

It's different, so you might get used to it or not. Best to go to a shop, expo whatever and try some. Read about the different types first (ebikesca; endless sphere, here).

If you like unassisted riding and just want a nudge occasionally, you may not need a manufactured “eBike”. Several people in this forum have created minimalist ebikes by adding 250 watt geared-hub motors, and small batteries to traditional pedal bikes.. If that is on your wavelength, checkout Leeds at ebikerig.com or Clean Republic.
Not not all ebikes are porkers. Checkout some of the mid-drives which are 45#, or less. With the power off, they feel much like a regular road bike with stuff in the panniers. No threat. With the power on...... well, you will find out.
The level of assist is adjustable, so you can dial in the bike to meet your expectations.

There are also some friction drives which are extremely light weight. Check out Add-e, Go-e, Alizeti, Outrunner - Pe-Drives.
