Hello Folks,

It has been a while. I am curious about the full sus 29er world. Is there a bike available with 100-120mm travel both ends with room for 29x2.6-2.8 tires? It seems that you can get a more rowdy bike but bike tires but they all are like 140-160 travel. My local is super fun to ride but I don't want/need that enduro level travel for what I ride.

There are a few, the Salsa Deadwood comes to mind. Though many 29rs can squeeze in a 2.6 or even 2.8. if that's your main objective look at 29+ bikes. I'm sure there are others than the Deadwood, when I come across others I'll update this thread

The new Specialized Stumpjumper has an "ST" (short travel) version with 130/120 travel, Trek Fuel EX is 130/130, and new Ibis Ripley is 130/120, and all can fit 29x2.6. Trek Full Stache is also 130/130 and can fit full 29+ tires. Not sure if those are too much travel for your purposes.

Seems like more and more bikes being released recently have 2.6" clearance, which is a nice option. I've been running a 2.6" front tire (paired with 2.35" rear) for awhile now and really like it. Have you considered a wider tire up front and faster rolling, narrower tire out back? That would really open up options, as most forks have no issue running 2.6-2.8.

My KHS Team 29 has 2.1s on it at present, but my ruler says it will take 2.6s.

nice job team, I have ridden the deadwood; it is a fine bike but really just a bit meh I thought. I haven't tried the new stumpjumper, I didn't know it could hold the bigger meats. I'll have to go take a look. ohhhh the Ripley, I had forgotten about that beauty. I have a 29+ hardtail so I don't want to go the full plus route.

If you don't need carbon, look at Banshee bikes. I have a Prime with 2 sets of dropouts which allows for 29+ 2.8s, 27.5+ 3.0s and regular 2.4 tires. I wouldn't go smaller for the bike as that will introduce pedal strikes. The Phantom model is also a 29r with 105mm of rear travel. I'm using a DVO Topaz with it which is currently my favorite shock. They only sell direct, but check their web page for their demo tours nearby

Good timing - these bikes have really hit their stride lately and everybody's trying to accommodate 2.6 tires.


At 100mm, the Salsa Spearfish can take a 2.6. So can it's big brother Horsethief.


At 120mm, the Guerrilla Gravity Trail Pistol can fit a 2.6, maybe more. GG is doing in-house carbon at competitive prices and their modular design allows for interesting possibilities. Cool company.


The Pivot Trail 429 slots between those two. I'm sure there are others. With the Ripley 4's celebrated release, the R3 might be on clearance, can fit 2.6, was very popular.


Not much demand for FS 29ers that fit 29x2.8 in back. Lenz hasn't been mentioned.
