Going to buy a used Trek Fuel 80 and it has a Rock Shox Pilot fork, it rides OK on the short test ride,But the reviews I have read say it sucks. Anyway what would be a good fork for the bike for around $450. I just put a Marzocci MX Comp on my old Y-11 (Y-5-0) And its better than the Indy SL that was stock but is a pain to adjust the rebound, you have to un-air the shock and take off the top cap and use a long allen wrench to adjust, then put the cap back on re-air the fork and ride, Then do it all again until you get it right. I want an external adjust this time. So what do you guys think?

If you are going to go by reviews then just keep using them to find a good fork. I am using www.mtbr.com to help decide. I am actually considering a used Marzocci Mx comp air or just a dart 2 (got v brakes) but I am using that site to quickly isolate and help me understand each fork's strengths and weaknesses.

What did you think of the Marzocci? They like to say it's smooth as butter, is that your impression of it as well?

In that price range, take a look at the Rockshox Reba Race. You can find them on sale or on E-bay for that price.

Hal, I just grabbed a a Dart 2 from pricepoint.com for < $100, with a Cane Creek headset. I've only had it out in the 'hood and on the MUP, but early indications are that it will do just fine for me on the single track. I really like it.

I replaced a Marz XC400... it sucked! I hate air forks with a purple passion.

How in the hell would riding pavemented MUP's give any indications of how it will perform on ST. Unless your ST is smooth & paved too

If you have $450 to spend, spend it. A better fork will dramatically increase ride quality. Go for the Rockshox Reba Race - awesome fork and a great value to boot. Don't bother with the lower end forks if you have the cash to get a nice one. There is a BIG difference (coming from someone who's owned and ridden far too many forks)

Hal I like the MX Comp, But pain in the ass to dial in if you change where you ride. It is smooth!!
Going to e-bay now looking for Reba. (She still got red hair? )

Not that I'm a Guru on the topic But The Judy's on my IH Warrior topped and bottomed out regularly with regular urban funrides. No Drops allowed over 4 feet.
