I did a search and there is not much information on this forum about these wheels. The reviews at road bike review are all 5 stars with the exception of one four star review. Does anyone here have any experience with the Volant wheels.

I am thinking about purchasing a set. Right now, they are 399.00. That price includes shipping, rim tape, skewers, tubes and Continental GP 4000s tires.

Any input or opinions would be appreciated.

Looks like a pretty vanilla wheelset. Low spoke count, so I'd stay away from them if you're over 180 lbs. Reasonably deep rims should be pretty strong, but there just aren't many spokes supporting them.

They look reasonable, but I think you could buy similar wheels with more of a track record for that price. Easton Vista SLs come to mind or Mavic Aksiums (although I don't know the price of either of those). 24 rear/ 20 front is a really common spoke count especially for a fairly deep rim. I don't consider that to be a low spoke count these days. If they are well made (that is hand built) they should be pretty durable. My opinion on that is a little different from Waterrockets who talks about his beloved 32 spoke wheels every chance he gets!

It comes with GP4000 Tires.
The s is Sean meaning GP4000's as in plural.

He has always responded very quickly to my questions and concerns. Seems like a straight up guy. I think I got an 08 wheelset as he sent me a brochure of his 08 wheelsets with mine and it designed like the 08, but with 07 graphics.

Mine weigh in at 641.9g fro the front, 848.7 for the rear (Both are including rim strips since he already stuck them on and I wasn't gonna bother to remove them for weighing)
Skewers look solid and weighed in at 55.9g front and 60.9 g for the rear. So pretty much exactly their claimed weights.

Shipping was fast and prompt.

Haven't put any miles on them yet as its freezing up here in Canada, and still waiting on some parts for my new soloist.

They are not the same company, but both use the same rims(Jalco) and spoke manufacturer(Pillar).

I have looked at neuvation also, the R28 sl3 or aero 3. The reviews look very good for both companies, but the reviews for the neuvation wheels often mention how great the service is after something breaks. That is terrific, I would appreciate the good service, but I would like something less known for breaking.

Rol does not use Pillar spokes.

Forgot to mention, mine came with the DT Aerolite instead of the Sapim CX Ray, which I believe Sean is switching to for 08.

Those are old reviews....I haven't heard a single negative thing about them since they fixed the hub problems.

I had a problem with my rear rim(due to neglecting to have them re-tensioned after over 15,000 miles), and John sent me a replacement wheel even after the 1 year warranty was up. The hubs have been fine so far.

Given I am a lighter rider ~140lbs I can speak to the strength of Rol's wheels, as well as the standup nature of the leadership at the company.

I am a very aggressive racer who asks a lot of my equipment and have destroyed two sets of Ksyrium SSC SL's (reputably strong wheels) and after a season on my Rol's (training and racing some on them) I have had absolutely no issues with trueness or tension.

Sean was great to deal with, prompt responses and easy business.

I bought a pair of the Volant's this spring. They are plenty strong for larger riders. I am 6'3", 215lbs.

Service is great too. I taco'ed the rear wheel in a crash. Sean rebuilt the wheel with a new rim and got it back to me very quickly.
