1961 Schwinn Super Continental

My dad has a 1961 Schwinn Super Continental he wants to sell and he wants to know the value. Can anyone give me a estimate? It has little bits of chipped paint and missing a peddle, but looks great for its age.

Welcome to the forums.

Upload some photos to photobucket or flickr (both free services), and post them here by putting around the urls. The urls should be direct links, beginning in "https://" and ending in ".jpg"

With old bikes, we really need to be able to see it to say.

The most important considerations are condition and the completeness of the original component group. if it has the original Simplex Competition (suicide) front derailleur and chain-pull Tour de France rear, it is presumably worth more than a later 1961, with the superior, but much more common, Huret Allvit setup. Read "The Dancing Chain" for a wonderful true story about how Keith Kingbay, father of the derailleur-geared Varsity and Continental, negotiated with Roget Huret and his brother over a 3-martini steak dinner in Chicago.

The Super Continental was a one year only(1962) model.
It had the Huret derailleurs.
It became the Sierra for 1963 & 1964.

I recall seeing a Simplex-equipped 15-speed Continental on eBay several years ago and assumed it was a Super Continental. I guess that was either a non-original crankset or a factory 15-speed with out the "Super" label.
