Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No photo. When I see this thread title, it takes me back to my racing days. Empty road ahead means I'm off the back or off the front and all that is in front of me is pain! The visuals don't matter. I won't see them or remember them.

Looking toward the sandstone base of the Lukachukai Mountains.

Here's the original photo I made that started off this thread long ago. I didn't make the first post. The poster linked to my photo. The photo disappeared from the first post. So here it is again, 11 years later.

Bummer, the riding and the weather are perfect here. My legs and lungs, well that's a different story.

I did a little riding through Camp Mackall (Ft. Bragg area of NC) today. There are a double handful of miles that are quite flat by local norms, typically very well shaded, pretty much zero traffic, but also mostly crappy chipseal (or unpaved). It does not take a sign like this one to keep me and my 25mm tires off roads like this one. For the acronym challenged, it is United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School - but you knew that.

Starting to find more backroads less traveled around me. Plus, the tubeless GP 5Ks on my Domane are still inflated. 😂

Some photos from July 4th weekend.
This is my favorite road in the Ocala Nat. Forest:

Someone dumped their old boats by the side of the road. Grrrrrrr.
