I miss the point about not using velcro on glove too. I've washed my gloves with my jesrseys and other bike stuff and I don't have any pulls on the jerseys or velcro hooks jammed up with lint. I don't do anything but make sure the velcro is fastened when putting in the washer.
I'm not saying there aren't those that do have problems with it, and certainly for them not using velcro is an option. But saying velcro is useless and not needed is pretty much the same as saying an 11 tooth cog is useless.
What works for some isn't necessarily for all.

Nice.. .derailed into a Velcro debate.
What about stinky gloves... I just washed mine today and they smell like a spring breeze.

For those tossing gloves in the laundry, does the label on the gloves say washing is okay? I might toss them in if it won't ruin ones that say "handwash only". Then again, they're wear items that I replace every year anyway.

I bet you thought it hold things together, but this topic shows is drives things apart
But to comment on your post, I have found my gloves stuck to the inside of my bibs by the velcro. So I now put them in a laundry bag... problem solved.

Everything goes into the bucket after each ride for a wash; gloves, head cover (I headshave every morning), handkerchief (keeps the back of my neck from sunburn), shorts / bibs, jersey. While I'm showering I do the first fill with water. Several drops of dawn dish washing gets some soap action going. One bucketful wash, one rinse. Done. On my next machine wash everything gets thrown in except the gloves and shorts / bibs. Those are only hand washed.

Did the "leathery" material get thrown in the dryer and turn rock hard or was it drip dried?

I finally just removed my hands. The smell was awful, and my little finger was held on with velcro.
And I wanted to get another 12 oz. off the bike.
