Carbon fiber fork sound test

Hi all,

I had a spill on my bike the other day, completely my own fault and fell on some asphalt. Right handlebar and pedal got the worst of it, but some nicks on the right backside of the fork. Didn't really look like much but tried the coin test and sounds like damage. Link to vid is below - sorry not able to post hyperlink yet.

Curious to hear thoughts - thanks!

What I am hearing is the transition from the more substantial thick part at the top of the fork to the thinner
all CF portion of the fork. Fork crowns are reinforced thicker areas. Nothing to be concerned about there.
IOW tapping doesn't help in this area. Nice video though.

Thank you! On the other leg of the fork though, the sound doesn't seem to go dull like that. I was just concerned between that and the small amount of nicks there may have meant it suffered some damage. Then again, the rabbit hole of carbon forks is deep and I have only recently started this hobby...

The video is pretty pointless IMO. sch had it right. Try this on your entire frame and you'll notice there are varying sounds throughout the tubes.

No one here can tell you if it's o.k
You will have too decide or bring it to someone who can.
I would start with a test.
Do the brakes line up correctly?
Is the wheel position correct?
Rock the bike back and forth hard on the brakes lean you body weight over the saddle. Do it as hard as you can.
Is it different then before?
Does it make a noise?
Does the damage look different?
Is the wheel position correct or has it moved?
Take the wheel out twist and turn the fork blades.
Are they both the same?
Does the damage change shape?
If everything is normal
Short slow ride
This is a start. Go from there.
If any of the answers where not satisfactory then there is a problem.
And you must decide what needs doing.
Bye the way I didn't even look at the video.

Thanks! Still learning, obviously. As i mentioned in my other reply, concern mostly comes from the other leg not giving off a deeper sound like that, nor does the leg in question anywhere else. Only the fork is carbon, however.

I took a couple more just so i don't exclude anything:

Here is the back of the fork with the marks, the left side is where the duller sound comes.

Here is sound of the "ok" leg:

And leg in question (duller sound at end)

Thanks again for looking at it
