As of this posting, and I suppose 20 year old bike or so would make it vintage.

Silk Path 300 hybrid converted to drop bar. Headshock. Shorter stem, tossed the pogo seat post, added C17, Delta front panniers carrier for suspended fork. Conti Speedride 700x42c. Quick attach mudguards (removed). By far the most plush road bike I have. Really enjoying it, especially for what I have in it.... ;--)

Not mine...yet, but I'm thinking about it. Local co-op has it, an early Cannondale tourer with 42" wheelbase and lowrider braze-ons. It's not perfect but it's really cheap. Crack in the weld of a seatpost binder tab can be corrected by filing off the tabs and using a collar instead.

I must admit that I am not much of a Cannondale fan but I did pick this old touring bike up on the weekend. It is too big for me, but not by much. The bike is in need of some work, but everything does work, as it sits, now, but need to take some pictures of it in its working state...

I'm not a fan of the aero bars (feels so unsteady and twitchy) so I moved the barcons to the drops. 18 lb. fun bike w/flawless paint. Up to this point I avoided 650c wheels because I don't want to have multiple sized tires and tubes and I like switching wheel sets around (700C) but this thing was such a steal!

Every time I end up selling mine I'll go, that's fine, I have other bikes that are great, too, I don't need a Cannondale again/for a while. Then I walk through the non-profit bike shop's back room area and see several (like, white with thin pink graphics from '88 or so) and go, "I want all the vintage Cannondales [in my size]!]

100% agreed! I've had a navy blue metallic SR400 which was wonderful, and then I sold it. Looking back, it's 50/50 on should I have, but I had my reasons (space!...then I got another bike...ugh). The paint was gorgeous. I've had a 66cm '89 3.0-era SR800. Nice and steep angles, but ultimately a 61cm top tube is too long for me. I keep thinking, maybe I could make it work if it popped up again, but if I'm realistic...no. My current is an ST400 from 1985 in metallic black. That's actually going to go to my brother once I build it up. Part of me is bummed that I won't have it, but 1) it will be in the family and cared for/kept indoors 2) I get space 3) I get to build up a bike! Oh, and 4) My '74 Paramount P15 touring is essentially the ST's predecessor, in steel. Both are phenomenal frames--those STs are bikes you can haul butt in.

My current wish is for an upper-end '85-88 SR model (and just the frameset) with the steep geometry (lower-end models got 73°/73.5° HT/ST, which is perfectly fine) in the 63cm size. 63cm frames had the same angles as the taller 66cm ones, so that would be the one I'd like.

When I returned to cycling several years ago, after my retirement (and after decades away from even owning a bike).... I would search Craigslist for bikes that I "missed owning" in my absence from cycling. Mostly I rode a modern bike... but would also buy, restore, and enjoy those bikes I "missed owning". I bought and sold more bikes than I kept count of.... but never considered myself as a flipper. That Cannondale (pictured) was one of two "keepers" I just couldn't let go of. I owned rode, and enjoyed the bike for 3 years.

However.... I continued to daily search for bicycles through Craigslist and occasionally a couple other on-line sources. A couple weeks ago I found a like-new CAAD 10, 5 with 105. No... not a vintage... but to me very desirable. I'll miss the Red CAAD2, R500. But I can only ride, or even store, so many bikes.

So Doc Cannondale a/k/a @rccardr made me buy this on CL earlier this year,

The bike came to me pretty much stock and I tried to change as little as possible while making it more user friendly for climbing hills and dealing with bad roads. The biggest change is in the gearing. The bike came stock with half step gearing (50/45, 13-34 freewheel). I went with a compact crank (really a deore triple that I'm using as a compact) and a wide ranging freewheel to give me cross over gearing (that's a lot easier for me to understand than half step gearing, (50-34, 12-30 7 speed freewheel). I swapped out the bar and stem as the bike came with a crummy short stem (like 9 cm) and narrow bars. I went with aero brake levers. I like them better than old school levers and, more importantly, they have a quick release. I like a quick release both in the caliper and the brake lever as that lets me get a wheel with a 700 x 32c tire on and off easily. I did swap out the 27 inch wheels for 700c. The ones I had on hand were also built around shimano 600 hubs but have araya rims which frankly I like better than the rigida 13/20 rims that came stock. The shimano 600 calipers reach the 700c wheels but just barely up front. And I went with new kool stop brake pads plus gatorskin 700 x 32 tires.

I'm leaning towards bringing it but I need to ride it some and see what I think. I've always brought a bike with a triple before though. Still with a 34 running on a 30, I have a 30 inch low gear which is pretty low. If I actually get in shape that would help too, .

The bars are nitto randonneur which I picked up from the c&v for sale forum.

I tried to sink as little money into this project as possible and so I tried to use as many of the original parts as possible and parts on hand.
