Mystery Repair Stand
I'm slowly learning how this forum works. A year a go I got help getting an image of this repair stand image up. I believe I made a mistake in posting it here:
Bike Forums > Community Connections > Regional Discussions > Northern California
I'm concerned that it did not get many views, especially since I title it "New Member - Attach and Image? - Catch22?" I encountered the 10 post minimum for images early on.
I hope it is socially acceptable to try again using a different forum and a more descriptive title? I know that 'cross-posting' is offensive to some.
I believe I bought this stand sometime not long after Hjertberg brothers opened the Wheelsmith shop on Alma Street in Palo Alto in 1975. I know I visited the shop often.
I've done Google image searches and I don't find anything similar. It was clearly built by a creative craftsman. You can see it in the choice of Allen cap-screws and the clean welds.
I'd love to connect with a collector who can give it a good home but I don't know what to call it.
Does anyone know who built this bicycle repair stand?
Thanks,
baumgrenze

If no one's responded, you can probably assume it's because no one has any additional information to offer. I don't either, but I'll have a try at it...
Btw, I should point out that most tech-related questions on this forum are usually resolved with a minimum number of replies, and you might want to re-post your question in the Bicycle Mechanics section.
Anyway...
From what little I know about repair stands, I can say the basic design is fairly common, but I've never seen a clamp like that before. Are you sure it's home-made? Are there any brand marks or serial numbers on it?

Thank you, CroMo Mike,
Can you be a bit more specific about the "Palo Alto Catalog for 1985?"
Is it available on line?
If so, on what website?
thanks,
baumgrenze

I think I found it, but it says 1984.
VeloBase.com - Catalog Scans
under Palo Alto Shop I find 3 catalogs, 1984, 1978-79, and 1979-1980. The first leads here:
https://velobase.com/Resource_Tools/D..._alto_1984.pdf
Here I find Cat. No. 33-402 $29.98
I did even better as I composed this. I called Palo Alto Bicycle and was passed along to Jeff Felzer, the general manager, who confirmed that these were Palo Alto Bicycle repair stands (house brand) from the 1980's.
I will dust it off and take it in sometime soon.
thanks,
baumgrenze

Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction.
My most recent reply, above, was composed after I saw CroMo Mike's but before I saw Special Monkey's
I'll be taking the stand in to the store for a 'show-and-tell' soon.
