When you don't have skis...

Wanted to cross-country ski last night, but my friend doesn't own skis. So we grabbed the bikes instead. Had a great time. The photo below shows the ATV / snowmobile route that we took. We also hit our local jump trail, which was a lot of work to pedal down as none of the snow there had been packed. Good times!

awesome!

reminds me x country skiing at night w a buddy once. he went down a hill ahead of me, crashing into a stream, breaking off both ski tips. crummy walk back to our car. luckily no bad injury. that was when we were young & pliable

Just regular bikes. I was on an old Gary Fisher 26er setup rigid and running a set of Nokian Freddie's Lite tires. My friend was on a Salsa Big Mama with Nokian 294 tires. Steering was a little squirrely here and there, but ok overall.

I was half-expecting a photo of your friend on an MTB, pulling you on skis...

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep...."

Hah! That's an interesting idea. Might have to try it. Streets are icy right now. It could work.

Skiers on the paths/trails are not that unusual here? 'Course, it was made clear 'round these parts a while back that there are no bike paths/trails. They're all called "multi-use". Some of the state rec trails even allow snowmobiles, but there's obviously some controversy about that.

well, the official name for that path is Minuteman Commuter Bikeway but it's widely accepted to be used by anyone except cars. I've never seen a horse or snowmobile but others may have!

That path looks nice in winter. Plowed? Looks like a fun ride.
