Jamis Coda Comp vs. Cannondale Quick 3
Sorry, can't post links to the bikes because I am a new member. Replacing a stolen bike, looking for a versatile do-it-all ride. Something I can zip around a city on be able to tackle the occasional half century. I live in sunny (and hilly) Los Angeles but we'll be moving next summer to a flatter terrain and more diverse climate. Preferred disc brakes and flat bars with bar ends. I've narrowed my choices to the Jamis coda comp and the Cannondale quick 3. I anticipate I may want to buy a proper road bike in the future so I think I would be able to convert this hybrid into a computer/to bike . Loved my old Jamis coda sport, like the steel, but I've read a lot of negative reviews of triple chainrings. Comp is also about 2 lbs heavier than the Quick3. The trade-off for me is the comfort of steel and the granny ring versus a couple of pounds (and possibly less versatility?). Is a triple really that bad? Would appreciate your input. Which would you buy?

I own a Quick 7, with a triple chainring, and a Quick 3. I live in a very hilly area of NC and at 70 years old have to drop to the lowest gear for some of the hills I ride. With the triple on the 7 I will go to just about the lowest also but I believe the weight is the biggest difference. As I have gotten stronger I have been able to use the lowest gear sparingly. I have to say that the 3 is so much smoother, very little numbing in my hands and it just goes where I point it. Very stable and comfortable ride and though I thought I would split the ride times between the two I am seriously thinking of selling the 7 and getting a MTB of some make. I do not have any reference to the other bike you are looking at but I can tell you that the 3 is an outstanding bike. I also looked at a Giant Escape 1 disc. Nice also but not on the same level as the 3 in my opinion.
Just my .02 as the Cannondale frame geometry is a very good fit to my body so that is a hugely important part of the ride.
Frank.
