I've scored some of my best steals on eBay that way ... I won't complain, personally. I scroll through all recently submitted auctions at least once a day and you'd be shocked at how poorly a lot of people list things. I'm not the only one doing this, so for popular stuff one or two other people usually hop in, but auction still usually closes low as hell.

I agree. This auction is local pickup and o feedback seller so some risk. What I do in auctions like this is send a question, maybe ask for one or two more pics and see how the seller responds. I got my like new condition Carrera with Campy Record that way, seller sent me a pic of the Columbus EL sticker!

Thanks for the pointers on finding the expired listings. I think I spy a Tretubi sticker. Mine, with the same graphics, is SL and has the 51.151 hour record panto. It rides similar to my Colnago Super and would be a steal at that price, but I don't think this is one. Worth a look though for a Philadelphian.

I've done the same, but I still find it odd. Sometimes I'll ask 2-3 questions and literally get a one word response.

Indeed. Most of us forumites buy and sell easily. It's simple right? Some folks are just not good at it. Can't take photos or even describe what is sitting in front of them. I was looking at a frame recently on ebay and asked a few questions of the seller. At first he was polite and answered then it turned ugly. Strange.

Paramout Road Bike 56cm Columbus SLX Tubing 20 Speed Shimano Mix - $600 (Newton)

This is a 1986 Waterford WI built Paramount. The components are a Shimano mix with a 10 speed cassette and a Dura Ace double crankset. Paramount built some of the best steel bikes in America. and their reputation for innovation and for build quality is widely respected. The bikes will always be collector's items that you can use every day.

The bike has the paint chips and decal tears you would expect of a well used bike but there is no rust. The bike has never been used on a trainer so the top tube has no rusting at the cable brazeons. Measured center of top tube to center of the crank the seat tube is 22" or 56cm as it the top tube.

Please include a phone number in your response. The price is $600 or best offer. I will be available to show the bike Saturday or Sunday.

I love it! And it's my size, but way too expensive for me. Math is hard, though: 21.5" is 54.61cm, not 48.4. It looks like 54-56cm to me...

Oh, no... really? So "patina" is a verb now? Yeah, rust has always been a big selling point - I won't buy a bike without it.

Right. And it's not like spraying clearcoat on top of rust is going to stop it from eating away at the metal. That bike is being sold where people probably aren't so familiar with rust, though.

Wow. That makes me want to round up all the local town-folks in a mob with pitchforks and torches and run the guy out of town, or the country.
