We took off after the 2nd lap I think. My breakaway companion just hammered it over the hill, and I thought he'd be a strong guy to work with, so I asked him if he wanted to go.

Apparently at one point we had 2 minutes on the field.

We've both moved up to cat 3 now, so I probably won't be doing that again anytime soon.

It was just a organized ride, however. Not a race. Though we pinned numbers and had a KOM climb.

Circuit race from the Ventura Stage Race. Halfway through, I had been dropped on the climb a few minutes prior and spent a few minutes trying to catch a small group ahead that had also been dropped but I just couldn't close the gap and I think at this point I just had just given up. That race had tons of attrition and the group that I got dropped from was only about half the field already.

Ah... all these rides turn into races around here. Every friggen team is represented. Attacks, breaks being chased down, the yelling and cussing. The only thing that's different is that when we get back there's no winnings but plenty of food.

Heck this one had a KOM climb.

full-finger gloves are much appreciated by those who sit at a computer 8 hours a day.

It was pretty warm. I think I've gotten to the point where I prefer full finger gloves pretty much regardless of the temp. They are well ventilated anyway, pretty much a mesh on the backside of the fingers.

sub, you like these cookie rides; where were you for mt. mitchell? we worked it down to just charlie, ryan, and me with about 7 miles to go, and they double-teamed me to perfection with a couple of miles to go- second loser. good day, though, all things considered.

No Mt. Mitchell for me.

Yeah, Ryan gave me the low down. Said he got a little gap on you then Charlie bridged up to him.
But, to do what you did was phenomenal. That's one tough friggen ride up 180 isn't it?

Welp, for me it is. Guys like you and the Carolina Masters Gang do this like it's nothing.

Yep, I saw it coming but had just put in a pull, so I wasn't recovered- as much as you can recover while going up Mitchell, anyway- yet, so it just wasn't there when Charlie jumped.

Rte. 80 is fairly painful when Boyd J is on the front for 2/3 of it, and me and a couple of others pulling when he wasn't...the Parkway was worse, though, with Boyd still killing it and Ryan, Charlie and me rotating through as well. That's what got rid of everybody but 5 of us, and then Boyd pushed a little too hard and he and Nathan from Lenovo dropped out of the lead as the three of us continued on. We went from 100+ in the group at the start of the climb, to 15 at the Parkway entrance, to 5 with 10 miles or so to go, and finally to three with 7 or so miles left.

Over a month ago, but oh well.

This was at the MIT X-Pot 3D.

Halfway through 4 laps to go on the crit, I was up front with great pack position. Saw a rider try to go, so I chased and passed him. Unfortunately, my legs would have none of it because of all the climbing the previous day. I didn't pedal for about 1/2 a lap. That's me, casually waiting to be sucked up by the main pack.

I hope he doesn't get upset. truckin, 3rd, AoMM.

He's relatively quiet here. But he makes himself known on the race course. I have the opportunity to watch him race a few times. And sometimes race against him - though many wheels back.

I was there; he put 2:04 into me. It's not a race. It's a well organized, timed group ride.

thanks, sub, for posting the picture. skip- sure, it's not permitted with USAC, but I'd wager that you and I both worked harder (and suffered more) than we do in most races that day...

I closed more gaps, did more pulls, longer pulls, attacked more, and charged bigger hills this weekend than I've ever done as a racer. There was indeed plenty of suffering to go around.

good stuff, skip.

since no one seems to get pictures of me suffering while racing, i'll put up a picture where you can actually see me suffer:

And then afterward (a 'podium' shot, as it were):

Credit to Blue_Ridge_Parkway on flickr, whoever he may be- he was on a moto and stopped every now and then to take some really nice pictures.
