Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Keep an eye on Power2Max in the upcoming season. Right now, and depending upon your BB, you might be able to set yourself up for $490, plus any applicable tax/shipping, but they often have specials this time of the year. For full power (not an estimation based on doubling a single side), this is still the best deal that I'm aware of. If you need new rings, get some Praxis from them at the same time - at ~$100 for the set, they're a good deal.

Meh, sports injuries usually buff right out.

Speaking of Power2Max, I was using a single side Stages but now have a P2M. The odd thing that I found was that I consistently run 52% left and 48% right. Considering that I'm right handed, I assumed that my right leg would be stronger than my left. Probably time for those dreaded one-leg pedaling drills.

Everything that I've read says that that kind of imbalance is nothing/normal and that, even if it were worse, evening it out wouldn't necessarily be beneficial. Unless you're nursing yourself back from something like a knee injury, balance is just a nice-to-know.

Oh, and handedness doesn't indicate dominant leg. One suggested way of finding your dominant leg is to put your feet together and have someone give you a push forward (without you knowing the exact timing) - the leg that you stick out to keep yourself from hitting the deck is your dominant leg.

I agree, but think more about rats and wheels. For a middle school project, my daughter and I put a cyclometer on her tiny Chinese hamster's wheel, and damn if that little ****er didn't run about 9 km a night! Imagine what he could have done with performance parameter feedback and video of a bunch of his virtual buds in hamster Watopia!

I don't have a powermeter, but honestly the r/l difference is probably unnecessary in MOST cases. It's probably more useful to track recovery from an injury that preferentially affected one leg. One of my patients works for Stages and he agrees with me, but says consumers want double sided.

I still have some medial quad atrophy on the left from an old L3 disc fragment. I haven't gotten on a leg press lately, but I bet it's still weak. I guess one could just put the load cell on the weak side...

Speaking power meters, does anyone have a clue as to which one would fit my new Cannondale Topsoil? I haven't looked at power meters in a while and compatibility is always a pain. It has FSA cranks I think, with some weird sized chainrings (42/30 or somethinf like that). Four bolts too, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, the difference isn't exactly necessary, but price being equal, I still want total power rather than estimated total power. A lot of people seem to have a balance drift at some point in exertion curve, so that could, in theory, lead to some wonkiness with the numbers and the power zones based off of them.

if you needed a survey to tell you, it can't be all that. I knew my saddle bag was awesome and didn't need no stinkin survey. Just like the awesome shovel.

Come to think of it, the awesome shovel is also lightweight and aero!

Nice. Pedals it will be if I take the plunge. The bike has very short chainstays and won't tolerate any chain line issues.

Yes but some use "regular" road type (typically Look Keo style) cleats.

Those some small chain rings! FWIW, P2M is now doing spiders for MTBs, so that might be the route to go if your BCD is smaller than 110. No idea on chainring compatibility or if you'd have to replace them at the same time, but they are doing spider drillings for Shimano 4-hole assym.
