15 yr old Indian girl bikes 1200 km w. injured father as passenger

This is quite a remarkable feat and makes me realize what weak creatures of comfort we've become...

"Speaking of her journey on the bicycle, Jyoti says, 'I would ride the bike for more than 100 km every day. We would stop at a petrol pump, spend the night there and resume our journey the next morning. At all the petrol pumps where we stopped, people offered us food and drink. They treated us very well.”'

I'm not yet allowed to post links so just google "indian girl 1200 father"

This young lady would have averaged around 93 miles a day.

Kilometres but still not bad! She did get a lift from a truck at some point. Not sure how far.

On top of the distance, this must have been in 100+degrees-f heat too. How many of us would've been able to do it?

Actually, 93.2 miles per day is correct. It was 150 Kilometers per day. 1200 Km divided by 8 days.

MIles. 1200 km in 8 days = 150 km/day = 93 miles. On a one speed with a 150 pound tent.

I did that distance in those days twice on solo tours as a young man. Bike and gear weighed ~55 pound. I had a 15-speed and sewup tires. Rode on pavement. I am very impressed.

It was a matter of survival. For some background, which the article fails to offer: India's president Norendra Modi imposed a nationwide lockdown, closing all businesses, including the mass transit that the migrant workers normally rely on. The migrant workers can't afford to live in the city without any income, thus have no choice but to travel back to their rural homes 1000+kms away. This father and daughter had enough money to buy a bicycle but most of them have to walk. In the 100+f degrees heat of the day because there's a 7pm-7am curfew. One little girl who attempted the trip, almost made it but died just 60 kms from her home.

I had read 12 days somewhere. One way or another it's quite a feat.

I had read 12 days somewhere. In another article I read this:"Jyoti said they would cycle for 30 to 40 km a day and sometimes, an odd truck driver would agree to take them aboard. "It was unbearably tiring. We would stop for food at places where we could see free food being distributed among people like us," Jyoti shared."

She seems like an honest girl and I'm guessing there's been some exaggeration. Nonetheless it's an extraordinary thing to have done.

Might depend on how long/far I had to fight it.. and what the terrain was.
