I will be doing a collegiate race around the capitol sunday afternoon, depending on when I'm done with that I might make the p123 gdvc race.
I doubt it will fill either. Last year is was ~40 person fields.

See you there. Regarding the non-filled fields: I second that emotion.

Saturdays weather in the 70s I should be there. Sunday weather cooler in the 40s and showers I may be iffy. Hey Psimet2001* are you racing masters?

Yup. I believe so. Can't remember what the actual flyer had for cats, but I know there are 3 races I could do and I plan on doing at least 2 of them. I assume it's 4/5 masters and cat 4 or 4/5

And I guess there's no P123 field, only P12 so Loberg told me he's gonna help me convince Heidi to let me race the P12. It might be suicide after an 80 mile RR on saturday, and a 70 minute crit just before.

Are they doing anything to the pavement for that capital crit? The pavement up there is getting pretty terrible.

I don't know about the pavement. How sketchy is it? Like giant potholes that could throw you over the bars, or just rough crappy pavement?
And I'm a solid 10 years off from being able to race the 3/4 masters race. lol

Not a racer but on the pavement 5 times a week - The pavement issues are mostly seams (generally vertical), not potholes. I wouldn't call it "rough" per se, but certainly if you are between the two lanes of pavement and get caught in a seam, trouble. Is it the inner loop or the outer loop? The outer loop has more issues on Doty and is probably dangerous.

I'm guessing it's the inner loop? I've never done it. It will be fun to have a normal crit course for once this year. All the crits I've done so far have been loops with no turns, or parking lots with 13 turns. A nice square 4 turn course should be a nice change.

As wiswell says it's mostly a problem of big gaps in parallel seams. Fine for riding in traffic if you're watching, but seems kind of sketch for a race. Maybe they'll fill them.

The USCFers should get on this loop. Well, that may change everything ... shoot the Greenbush collegiate race, get home in time to call in sick for work Saturday night , then shoot GDVC in Madison on Sunday. It's either that or shoot GDVC 1 in Madison on Saturday, race home to Milwaukee in time to work all night, then blast back to Madison on 2 hours sleep for GDVC 2 on Sunday. (and before you judge me, I've called in sick TWICE in the last 5 years - been there 12 - and it's my last week on the job anyway ). Hmmmm ... will see how badly they stick it to me at work over the next few days - they slammed me last night.

That Capitol Course is fun. Raced it a few times as part of the Badger State Games. Pretty fun flying through that first turn (slightly downhill)

Nope.
I don't know what I'll be doing, but I do know what I won't be doing!
No worries. I'm taking several months off - ride the bike, regain some resemblance of fitness, paint the house, shoot lots of pictures (cycling and others), then find full time work. I don't think finding work in health care will be too difficult after 12 years of intense ICU experience. (plus the hosp. owes me $ for the 400+ hours of PTO time that they never allowed me in vacation days).
I proclaim this: The Summer of John! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPS3qLtaFtw
Edit: Just updated the web page - video from last year's GDVC posted!

My biggest assessment about about the pavement around the capital:
No good if you're bunched up and hit a parallel seam AND, good luck finding a good line around the corners. There are some nasty chuck holes on the joins of the block sections that could throw you if you're taking a corner fast. Think, both wheels skipping out from under you at 25+.

Just stay to the outside of the course on the straightaways and you'll be fine. Trust me, I've done this a couple times
That's what the Tour of America's Dairyland is for. It's one of the two road races in the series.
DUDE! This is a *KILLER* course! https://www.mwccc.org/sp09/flyers/pdf/sp09_uww.pdf
