Trans Am Bike Race 2018

Who's in? Anyone else here planning on doing the race?

Anyone done the race and have advice?

Something you wish you'd known, or brought with you, or left at home?

join the official facebook group. Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/5247...82933/?fref=nf

There are a lot of writeups out there with recommendations. Don't think that anyone that currently posts here has ridden it, but I could be wrong.

Without Mike Hall it might be a competative race.

It wasn't very competitive this year, Evan won it pretty handlily. Previous year with Lael and Evan, it came down to the end.

Anyone that wants to be approved for the FB group I linked above can PM me their FB handle and I will approve their membership.

Yep, I'll be racing it again this year and hope to have a little more success than I did last year. Had to pull out on the first day around 260 miles in after crashing and tearing my ACL. It was a blast while it lasted, though!

As for advice- join the FB page referenced above, and read all the riders blogs from prior years races.

I wish I would have stayed with the tried and true GP4000 tires I normally run and hadn't made the switch to tubeless for TABR. It was a flat that caused my wreck, and I'm convinced that tire sidewall failed on it's own without being punctured. On top of that, it took me close to an hour to remove/replace the tire from the rim as it was glued on from the sealant. Had to go back to a tube at that point anyway as it's near impossible to seat a tubeless tire with a hand pump.

That's interesting you say that - the wheels on my new Roubaix are tubeless ready and I had been toying with the idea of going that route.

My 2013 Propel SL came with 2Bliss ready but I have not gone that route. Just old fashioned I guess. The 2018 Roubaix Expert I'm still waiting for will most likely keep clinchers on.

Not in for 2018 Trans AM but will be going for 400 miles in 24 hours during 2018 Bike Sebring 12/24 Hours RAAM Qualifier. Wife has said if I make it in 2018 and 2019 and a few more other prep rides she would allow me to "consider" 2020 RAAM. I'm thinking a 2020 Trans Am might be more interesting.

2018 Expert came in last Wednesday and 130 miles on Thursday, 103 miles on Saturday. Winds are ripping today with only 42 so far but after dinner going out for 30+ then 100+ tomorrow.

HAVE CONSULTED THE BOSS LADY, she bought the Expert for me as a birthday present, and she is OK with me working towards a 2020 Trans Am. Have texted a friend who is an AWESOME RIDER to see if he would like to TEAM UP.

I was vaguely thinking about it, and then I realized that my butt didn't even make it through an SR series without totally disintegrating. The 400k really did it in, I forgot to use chamois cream on that one.

I used a bit of ChamoisButt'r during this year's 22 hour 307 miler Bike Sebring without any major issues on a Nashbar FR1 saddle. Just got in the ISM PR 3.0 that has been mentioned, installed it on the Roubaix and really like it so far. Even switched it over to my upright bar Paramount and no issues with more weight on it.

I saw somewhere that a lot of people on RAAM are using the infinity saddle Not sure I'm ready for that though
