Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Riding after Blood Donation

In hot FL how many recovery days should you allow. Road temperatures are over 100 when I ride.

I usually give myself a day after donating, I'm in Texas where avg. temps have been
above 100F for the past 2 or 3 weeks.

Depends how old you are and what sort of shape, but at least one day, but drink plenty of water. Then take an easy ride.

I'd give yourself a day for a whole blood unit. Drink plenty and take it easy. If you're in good shape and have normal BP, you'll be fine. You won't be able to sprint or climb worth a dang, but you won't fall off the bike either.

FWIW, I've been a regular platelet donor for several years now. Because you keep most of your red blood cells, you can ride hard the next day. You still need to replace the volume by drinking plenty, but I've never had a fatigue issue.

My mountain climbing usually sucks for a week after I give blood. On flat roads, I do OK as long as I don't sprint.
