Here's a picture fest from Sunday. I did the latest resto on this almost a year ago and just rode it the first time. I had some time off cycling so my fitness first needed to be up to scratch enough to ride it. 42-26 in the hills is hard work here. 1st gen Superbe was Superbe, it just finds the next gear like its auto pilot and holds the perfect spot and so quietly.

Rode from Tavel to Tarascon today. A nice 50k ride along the river Rhone, via Avignon.
The few climbs were worth it:
The scenery was beautiful ...
... and the pique-nique places were in style:
Coming up to Avignon, the first sight is of Le Pont:
We crossed the river by complimentary ferry:
And after a short visit to the town we went on our way again and enjoyed the French landscape. Most of the time it is easy to imagine it still is 1979 ....

I like riding in France.

Road up to the end of Beaver Creek Road in Pike forest close to the tree line so a about 800-900 feet in elevation over ten miles nearly 2hrs up and 35 minutes back First time I road the full Beaver creek road a bit tough on the way up but great ride back only pic.

For you Seattle area folks ...
I rode down Lake Wa Blvd Monday, down to Seward Park, and the blvd was mostly blocked off, car-free, like it was a Bicycle Sunday.
Not sure if it will stay this way as part of the "safe streets" initiative or what. But it was glorious!

It's been a while since I last posted. Yesterday was my 47th birthday, so I went for a 47-mile ride, which included nearly 4,000' of climbing. I haven't been riding too much and felt pretty wiped out once I got home. It was a gorgeous day for a ride--sunny day, not too hot, with a light breeze, and empty roads. I rode south along the ridge of the east bay hills toward Castro Valley, then turned around and looped back home via Pinehurst (the switchback pictured below), before rounding out the mileage with a few miles on the Bay Trail by the water.

Rode from Tarascon to Arles today. Only 50k, and the scenery was breathtaking at times, but the sun was relentless.

Today we went for the coast, by way of the Camargue estuary. Lots of brackish water, and the mosquitos to go with it.
Most important crop here is the riz de Camargue:

I went up to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park today to beat the heat down in the lower elevations. The sensations as the racers say werent good but felt a little stronger towards the end. I guess it showed as I was cooling off in a shady spot, a lady in. Sprinter camper I had passed earlier, pulled over, hopped out and gave me an orange. She said it looks like you could use this. She hopped back in and drove off. It did help a lot and I rode stronger for the last 15 miles.
Turk Mountain overlook. I rode plastic today because the legs needed every edge available.

Had some fun the last few days exploring two of the Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence River.
Wellesley Island with Boldt Castle in the background.
Grindstone Island, about 4 miles by 2 miles in size, only dirt roads, some cool farms, winery and pelted by a rain storm that made dirt trails slippery mud necessitating a re-route.
Back at the Grindstone dock.
Transportation between islands was a friend's 850HP dual BBC taxi. St. Etienne just fit through the cabin door.

This morning, in Saintes Maries de la Mer, we said goodbye to Vovo, the bull that reigned the local arenas for ten years.
After that it was straight back into the Camargue, on our way to Nīmes. Luckily it was a bit cloudy, which made the humidity bearable.
The only place for coffee for the first 20k turned out to be closed, so we made do with a sip from our bottles, and the company of a cat with a good taste in bikes.
From a cyclist's point of view, French drivers are probably the best in the world. They will generally give you a wide berth, and what's more, they'll use their indicators to warn other traffic coming up from the rear of the "obstacles". I really like that.
Riding into Nīmes is rewarded with this view ....
... followed immediately by running into the Roman arena. 2,000 year-old buildings make me feel small.

6th straight day of crazy wind. Sure glad I squeezed myself into the storage unit and pulled the Klein mtb out. Got 3 great rides in this week. Today was a flat ride on a portion of the Iron Horse trail I haven’t been on. I didn’t plan to ride for over two hours but fighting the wind wasn’t excruciating as it sometimes is so I kept going after texting my wife to say I was going to take longer. The tailwind on the way back was definitely refreshing.

From Nīmes to Uzčs today. I was kind of glad to be out of the flat and wet lands of the Camargue and get back into the Provence hills.
These are my favorite roads. Flowing trough the landscape they offer a nice mix of physical challenges and beautiful scenery.
An unexpected bit of Americana:
The highlight of the day, however, was the Pont du Gard, an aquaduct built by the Romans 2,000 years ago to transport water into the city of Nīmes. 35,000 tons per day. Stunning.
