1972 Raleigh Superbe porn/brag
Hey - had a score so good off Facebook market I had to log in for the first time in ~7 years to tel someone’s bout it.
Saw the posting a few minutes after posting went up, messaged and said I can be there in 30. Turns out I beat at least 2 who had made the mistake of trying to haggle and/or hold til next day. One was apparently pretty salty about it - sorry if that was you in CT. Paid him the asking.
guy had got it with some old studabaker he bought, simply “because he likes old things.” It sat in his garage untouched for years, and in the previous garage apparently for years as well.
All original except for the newer gum wall tires. I just filled up the tires, adjusted the seat, and cleaned off a little dust. Dyno works, everything spins smooth. Here’s what it needs:
Cherry on top - as an afterthought the guy had a ‘79 trek 430 w/ campy NR, barcons, super champion wheels and such. Needs some work but for $50 it topped off my night.

- ordered a wilmot-breedon key off some chap on eBay who has my number, hoping he will ship to US. Let me know if you have a spare ngn 5 you don’t need.
- needs the plastic cover on the rear light.
- i have the horn bulb, need to re attach.

You can't be blamed when you meet the right asking price. The Trek is a xmas present..
Is it a 3" Lucas chalice bell? Loud and proud and dear. Also early for the self adjusting levers.

Lazy man tip of the day on hubs. Get a cheep hub shiner or make one out of a piece of leather. Smear the inside with Simichrome and go ride. Repeat a few times. Those hubs will glow. What a find. One of those things I would not buy but could stare at forever. Nice catch

Lovely Superbe.. What, no close-ups of the adjustable brake levers (my fave)???? That will turn heads wherever it goes. The classic click click click sound at slow glide on a Raleigh 3-speed is a thing to behold... Cherish that baby.
