Tracking App for emergency contacts

I'm going to be doing a ride, where I want emergency contacts to know where I'm at in a ride. I'd prefer something other than Strava Beacon (monthly charge). What do you all use when you want to let a few people know your progress in a longer ride?

I have an Android phone

I have been using RoadId. It works well and it is free.

I've never used it, but a friend uses the Glympse app to show real time tracking of his bike rides.

I found another post that had this same discussion...I'm surprised I didn't come here earlier to look for something.. I've got both RoadID and Glympse on my phone now. Going to try them out tonight.

Apple has a “find my friends” app that’s free. I’m sure that android has something similar.

Bikes: A few older US made Cannondales, a modern Soma Saga (no longer made, alas!), and one gifted crabon Specialized. Never enough.

If you have a more recent Garmin computer, there is the Live Track function, which does require a mobile phone running the Connect app. You select recipients in the app and it sends an email link at the start of a ride.

For iOS, my family also uses the Life360 app, which the teen offspring weren’t so fond of, but it lets the wife know where I am with a good level of resolution (we even used it to see where offspring traveled in Israel this summer). Paid and free versions, with the latter providing all we need.

All of these options require mobile service, of course.

I have used Road ID for years. free used to use the iOS but am now on Android... works on both.

I tried to use the find my friends but I like the Road ID because it shows the route I am riding. I have also driven some of the routes with my wife so she can know my commutes and general routes. Helps to relieves nervousness regarding riding.

I have a Lezyne Super GPS computer, it has this feature. The computer automatically sends an email with a live tracking url to any emails I have set up in the system when my rides begin My brother tells me he watches me ride all the time.
