Wabash Cannonball Trail 9-3-2014

Somebody from Jackson, MI sent me an IM asking if I knew anything of a local trail here, I had seen it driving on local roads but never yet ridden it, so I decided to head out today and explore.

This is the Westernmost portion that I would ride, it looks like they are working on opening it up west but it was really rough, like "Just drove a Dozer or Trackhoe on it" rough.

Trail head Ohio State Route 15 near Holiday City Ohio, just South of St RT 107.

Looking east onto the rough area that looks pretty new.

Looking west the direction we are headed in.

One thing striking about this whole ride is the sheer amount of WORK that went into creating this railbed, it is elevated above the farmland quite a bit in many places, Railroads like shallow grades, and the amount if fill they used to achieve that is staggering when you think about it.

Here is a covered Bridge over Williams County Road 15.

Here is Beaver Creek Bridge, again the level of fill needed to build this elevated low grade rail bed is striking, lots of lots of work went into this.

The sun kind of weirded this last picture out, but it is a cool effect, so I kept it :-).

From here we turn our attentions back to paved roads, and head back towards Holiday City Ohio.
